I'm not in the best of mood now and I need to rant. Hope you guys can bear with me. Today, I had an awful experience. I was queuing up to buy some food for my parents, then came this young lady who pretended not to see me and cut my queue. It's impossible for her not to see me as I am not short. Anyway, I asked her politely to move to the back of the queue but she pretended not to hear me. When it came to her turn, I told the owner of the food stall that that lady cut my queue. The response I received was 'Never mind' and the stall owner continued to take her order. I was infuriated and I just walked away. I refused to buy food from such a person. Some of the people queuing behind was shocked by the behavior of that lady and the stall owner too. What is a queue for if people can just happily jump queue? I find these people extremely inconsiderate. Also, I am surprise that stall owner condone her behavior.

There isn't a lot that you can do about it is the problem really. You could get into a fight with the person physically but then you would probably get in trouble for that. I guess the best way to go is rely on karma to get them back.

I am from Singapore. Actually, jumping queue is uncommon here. In fact, it's not a norm. The stall owner and lady are foreigners working in my country.

Not everyone is so civic minded and considerate. The food stall owner just wanted to be sure that they don't lose any customers. I bet if you were to make a hell of a noise and others behind you to join in, everyone would have noticed and that lady would be like a mouse, truly embarrassed by then. But do we have to behave as uncivilized like her, to stoop our level so low? No, we have always a choice, they will always be people like her & the food stall owner who was unethical. They have just lost a good customer like you and I am sure you will not buy from that stall again. If they have been good, who knows in future you would have been a generous customer and brought more loyal customers to them...lol They have just overlooked a small matter according to them but didn't think of the bigger picture. I have the same before, walked away and spend my money to someone else who deserves it more and appreciated me all the same. And that lady is just waiting for one unlucky day :) Cheers,

that was bad on the girls part and the stall owners part they should not have condoned this behavior at all if i was the stall owner i would have refused too serve her and made her wait and if she walked then so be in she was unmannerly and had no home training if her parents did not teach her about respect and good values then she is lost but if they did then she should be ashamed of herself i am sorry this happened to you!!!!!

I don't think she feels ashame of herself. Such people are usually insensitive to how others feel about them. I am glad I have good upbringing. At least we know basic courtesy.

I also have lots of experiences that people tries to cut on queue. When I am in the mood, I let them because there are a lot of people who will react anyways. But when I am in a bad mood, I really voice out my objection. So far, everytime I openly object they will go back to the back of the line. They better not mess with me. If that happened to me, I will even scold that owner. How rude that he let anyone to cut in when you patiently wait in line?

It still makes me mad that that owner let that...person (hehehe) cut in the queue. It is very hard to wait in line. That person should have known that.

Sorry, I'm the confrontative type, hahaNot that I'm one who likes to find fault with others but especially those who pretend not to hear, I'll raise my volume & made sure the person hears. But I guess the person would have heard even from the 1st time as I really hate this kinda of nonsenseYeah, I understand especially Asian culture & also especially Chinese - don't get me wrong, I AM Chinese!~ I'll give the stall owner a piece of my mind & I don't think I'll walk away, I'll demamnd that she serves me 1st. Sometimes we let these kind of things go because we want to "save face", blah, I'll not tolerate thatBut at least you got your message across & yeah, what's the point of queing up then....duh!~

I had a simular experience a few days ago, I was in a card shop in a queue of about 10 people at one end of the counter (one counter with 3 serving assistants) and then this old woman and her two friends make a queue at the other end of the counter rather than joining the back of the existing queue. Everyone was all :O and the assistants didn't look too happy, but let it pass (I am assuming it is because she was old, if a teen had done this they would have got told to go to the back of the queue). The only reason I think the cashier might not have said anything was because she did not see the woman push in and it would be your word against her's and for the sake of a loaf of bread it was not worth causing a scene.

I cannot stand those people who start their own queue too. They are really insensitive to people around them. Actually, I'm 99% sure the stall owner had seen her cutting my queue. I was quite near the front of the queue when that happened. Thanks for sharing. Hope we do not meet such people again.

its such a shocking and pathetic thing to experience, while do people have to be so rude, why cant they just que up and wait their turn just like everyone else. this has happened to me, but it was a while back and i was a lot quieter person than i am now actually so i would of done what you did and spoke up to the owner and see their response, and i would of walked out just like you said. how can the owner just accept that in their shop they should consider their customers and treat everyone fairly.

my dear friend poohgah, there is usually no justice in the world. And people i.e both the lady and the stall owner find difficult to follow due process.I think you should not patronise that stall owner again. Just ignore them cos the world does need people like them

I have experienced this several times already. In most of those instances, I made sure that the person who cuts my queue gets a doze of his/her own medicine. I am the type of person who patiently waits for my turn and would never jump on someone else's queue and so I expect people to do the same. It's so unfortunate though that there are people who tend to be very impolite. Worst, instead of addressing the issue, the manager just allowed such behavior. I would have given the manager a piece of my mind and make sure that he/she will never forget me for as long as he/she lives.

To the stall owner, every customer is a business.. Maybe the owner din expect u to leave and not buy from her.. If she knows that, i think she will gladly ask the young lady to wait.. That's just the attitude of singaporeans, too bad.. There's nothing we can do but to accpet it and take revenge next time.. lol The same thing happen to me once b4 while i was waiting for cab outside PS, at the illegal taxi stand.. As it's a bus lane, so i move to the empty drain patch near grass and plants to wait for cab.. Suddenly out of nowhere, a couple just came in front of us and started flagging down the cab and they keep walking and walking more to the front so that it will appear that they are at the other side.. In the end, b4 they catch reach near rock master side, they got their cab, not one, but two!! I was so angry too, but wat to do??

Oh Yea. Some people hail cabs in a very unethical way. I really hate those people. When I try to hail a cab from the roadside and if I see people ahead of me, I'll just wait where I am and let them get their cabs first. If I realize I accidentally jump queue, I'll immediately move behind the person and let that person get the cab first. This is basic courtesy but yet some people do not know.

Maybe the person behind the till only worked there and didn't own the store. If it were my store I would have asked the lady to go to the end of the line and wait her turn, just like everyone else. But then, that is just me. If they only worked there, they didn't really care since they are only doing a job and don't care about repeat customers. I have had people cut into my line, too, when waiting to pay, but for me, life is too short to let the little things get to me, so I just patiently wait for my turn. I am never in that big of a hurry that I have to argue with anyone. I am not saying you should not have said anything because it is your right to, but I wouldn't have caused a scene.

I did not cause a scene but I did try to stand up for my rights. Too bad, I failed and I walked away quietly. I do not believe in abusing the person verbally or physically. One thing for sure, I will not visit that shop again.

I would do the same if this had happen to me. The stall owner should have implemented stricter rules if she wants to satisfy her customers. If the lady have asked my permission to cut in front of me, I would have allowed her but pretending that as if I don't exist, I would have not just turned my back there but also made sure the girl learns her lesson by telling her to be respectful next time as she is not the only customer. To the food stall owner, I would tell her not to implement queuing if she won't follow it anyway.

We were queuing for food. There's no reason why that lady should cut queue. So, even if she were to ask, I will not let her cut my queue as it's not fair for people behind me. Once, when I was in a clinic, I saw a guy who looked very weak and ill. The nurse asked me if I could let him go first. Without hesitation, I say Yes. He looks more ill than me and I have no problem letting him go first. It really depends on the situation.

If its an elderly cutting on the queue, then I would also have allowed it regardless of whether the line is long or not. Perhaps most of the people would understand that but for a young lady doing it, it is really being disrespectful. Anyways, everything really depends on the situation. I most if not all in the queue are hungry.

The lady and the store owner are both stupid! Both of them do not know the meaning of respect and they both deserve each other. You did the right thing, better walk out and don't ever buy from that food stall anymore. If I had been in that queue, I would have joined you in rebuking them and have gone with you in walking out!

i will be very upset as well if that happens to me... i will make a mocking remarks about her and i will say it repeatedly to her to move back to the queue until she hears me... and i will tell the shop owner a piece of my mind as well for condoning her behaviour... it is just plain rude for people to do that and i won't tolerate that kind of behaviour... take care and have a nice day...

good day.. Some people just want to take advantage of other people. It's that kind of behaviour that start an argument and sad to say trouble. People know that what they do is either acceptable or unacceptable to others and yet even this kind of understanding, some would choose the latter. I just don't know but if simple things like waiting for their queue or the likes and they rather choose to cut (cheat) on others, how would they deal with bigger issues like tax payments or something like that? But if she's deaf or something then that's another story and I know you would understand right?

Sorry to hear that. I experienced that many times. When something like that happened,it depends if its tolerable I just ignore it and if not specially I am already an hour waiting. I just approached the person who just slipped to a line and ask him/her in a humble voice to rightly place himself/herself in the right end.if they will not do what I asked from them, thats the time to have others aware what what he/she's doing. Sometimes my boyfriend will cover my mouth so that I can't react to that situation heheheh... too bad
