What is a nice gift for a 13 year old boy?

My grandson will be 13 soon and I don't know what to give him. I don't want to give him money and I don't want to give him anymore video games because I think he spends too much time in front of the screen. He is a smart child and has been on the honor roll for a few years now. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Take him to his favorite restaurant and give him a surprise treat. Or give him some good books to increase his general knowledge which is very very important now a days.

maybe you should treat your grandson for a vacation. ask him where we want to spend 3-5 days! you can also bring your grandson to a movie he want or you can buy him a ticket for basketball game, or baseball...

If he loves tinkering then maybe a RC(remote control) model or robotics kit, these would surely take some time off with his video games, if he doesn't done it yet. Smart minds need some challenging things to do with their spare time.

I thought that was a good idea too. Last year I gave him some challenging models to put together. That didn't catch his interest like I thought it would though.

maybe you can buy a little dog for him.^^The dog can be his great play partner.and he may spend more time on taking care of the dog and playing with it,instead of playing video games. They can be good friends.Just a suggestion.o(n_n)o...

Thank you for responding Liuqian. They have a dog already and he doesn't pay the dog that much attention. Now if the dog could play video games, that would be a different story. lol

Why dont you get him a good story book? That might get him hooked on to reading and it will be good for his mental development and language skills.

Thanks for your response naseeha. I've made my decision. A digital camera and a couple of good books. Thanks all for your great ideas.

Why not get him a gift card for best buy or walmart. You could get him a gift card for his favorite store. Then you are not giving him money and he can buy something he likes.

Thank you for responding honeydew. If I get him a gift card he will use it to buy a new video game.

Are you close to your grandson? Are you close enough to know what he likes, what he's into, what interests him, besides video games? Spend some time with him, and try to get some ideas that way, if you can.

How about a great book or perhaps even a good calculator. You can also buy electronic sudoku games if he's interested in that. Boys like those logic puzzles too where they have some bits of metal that have to be separated...there are all sorts of logic puzzles. Good luck!

Good ideas. Thanks for responding MsTickle. I've decided on the video camera and a couple of how to books.

I saw the gift card response and I personally think that is your best bet. You can't really deprive a child of what he enjoys weathers its music, video games or math books, it is what he likes and it is his birthday. Especially since he is a good student...maybe A or B student, why deprive him? If you choose not to get him a gift card or give him cash or whatever else you thought of that is not in your interest...maybe you can ask him if he'd like the museum or art gallery or maybe a play or movie. You could get 2 tickets and personally take him yourself. Birthday gift plus quality time with your grandson.

Hey smallT Being a grandmother you like to present some gift which will be useful for him and at the same time you do not want to give him money or vDO games.I respect your judgement/thinking. In my opinion the best way you can gift to your grandson giving him either books, costly pen like parkar or digital camera which is also more useful in the age of 13 yrs. pkc3000
