i have seen and met a lot of australians in the past but i dont see big ones as a matter of fact, they are big but it is more proportionate so that just makes me wonder LOL i guess i have not been in australia that is why.
any aussie here?
what do you think of this studies?
Australians more obese than Americans, study finds
Australia has a higher proportion of obese people than the United States, with the health system facing a "fat bomb" unless action is taken, a study warned Thursday.
The report from the Baker Heart Institute found that 70 percent of men and 60 percent of women aged 45-65 had a body mass index of 25 or more, meaning they were overweight or obese.
Titled "Australia's Future Fat Bomb," the study compiled the results of height and weight checks carried out on 14,000 adult Australians in 2005.
The institute's head of preventative cardiology professor Simon Stewart said the results meant Australia probably had the highest rate of obesity in the world, outweighing even the United States.
"As we send our athletes off to the Olympics let's reflect on the fact that we would win the gold medal problem now in the world fat Olympics if there was such a thing," he said.
Stewart said obesity was the major threat to Australia's future health, with an estimated nine million of the 21 million population obese or overweight.
"That is a whole million more obese adults than we had thought," he said.

i know some have problems of this coz of genetic factor but i always believe that we can always balance everything no matter what.
i am having weight problems right now as i seem to grow and grow each day so starting today my hubby and i decided that we will watched what we eat and will just split up meal whenever we eat outside.
se started tonight as we ate in hardee's (i was craving of their new burger so i asked him to try it out)
your thoughts about this?
is your country susceptible to the same problem?
thanks a lot!
have a good one!

Hi jairgirl, I saw this in the newspaper today, but only glanced at the headline and went to the next page. I don't think it really attracted me because weight isn't an issue for me. As for whether there are a lot of overweight people around, yeah, sure there are some, but I can't say it is something that really sticks out. There are quite a lot of skinny people as well, and average sized people, so I can't say I've noticed it being a huge issue. I'm not really sure how these scientists come up with these statistics, I mean, I wasn't called for a weigh in or a health check, and maybe 50 percent of other healthy weight people didn't either. Maybe we've just got really good tucker here, LOL!

good morning!
haha, so you werent ask to weigh in ei? maybe they are just afraid to knock on your door LOL
i remember reading in the past about japanese being obese and im happy that their government did something about it.
i think it is a personal choice but with the help of government it will be a lot better., i dunno!
btw, that is how i remember most aussie i have met in the past and even the one i am seeing on tv so that is really a surprise, i think obesity is common now as life seems to be easier compared before, imagine our ancestors who walks a lot to have something to eat, NOW that is exercise haha.
have a good one and thanks for the response.

hi,
i was surprise too coz like you i have not seen a big aussie YET.
i have not been to australia but i know a lot of them loves the beach an dthat helps them slim down BUT now my views of this have changed.
i know here they have a lot and it's been an issue for so many times now but who knows what will gonna happen next, it sure is hard to lose weight and keep focus on such goal.
i have earned a lot of pounds already and it depresses me a lot.
we are in a meat diet right now as it is best to do that than carbs all the time.
anyway, thanks for participating here.

hello bbsr13,
sheesssshhh i think my browser plays trick on me, i hope i didnt upset the upper poster as i thought it was you i am responding - my bad!
anyway, government, parents and the society have a huge part to make obesity problem be solve. i know there are some countries in asia that is supporting such theme to help their people lose weight and be aware of the effects of over weight.
out here, there are some fitness club that is cheap but the equipment is not as great as what you can find to the expensive ones and if you want to have that luxury you have to pay hundreds of dollars for a month subscription - too bad!
anyway, thanks for sharing your thoughts it is very important that we know a better lifestyle, food habits and must be able to exercise as much as possible.

hello hatley,
yes, that is very common here so whenever we go out we just split it up as it helps our body and pocket LOL
i think that they should do something about it to help the people coz you know some will just buy it and just leave it or bring it home (whatever is left over) maybe they can lessen the proportion and make it a little cheaper and that will help us lose weight and save money at the same time - what do you think haha!
btw, i hope parents will be more responsible when it comes to their kids coz i saw it often that the family will order a meal that is enough to feed 10 people when they are just 4, i just dont get it and they wonder why their kids is obese.
thanks for your response.

Hi sweetie,
I think a large part of the problem is the convenience of fast food. No one wants to stand in a hot kitchen during the summer time either. We are a "hurry up" kinda world. I know if I eat better I feel better. But sometimes I'm just too tired to deal with a major meal, especially since my hubby is a very picky eater. I love all kinds of food. I don't want to make two seperate meals.
Hugs

hello,
true, we seem to love that "convenience" not only in our meal but in most form of living now.
i try to have a balance meal but like you, my man is so picky that i have to make sure that i make something that he really enjoys or he will end up eating ice cream LOL
i think, most people now works and that is one of the factor why there is rarely a homemade meal for lunch or dinner - seems like it only exist during thanks giving or christmas eve.
do you enjoy cooking?
have a good one!

oh you make me feel so hungry, i am having problems eating right now as my appetite seems to be so down due to my fever.
anyway, i love everything you mention i enjoy them too, lately i am eating more steak and hamburgers than my normal days.
haha, the reason why i am not letting my hubby do the cooking is because he will cook enough to feed the whole troop so i said NO MORE for some reason he can only do the right taste if it's like a huge meal (no wonder we are gaining weights haha)
haha, your hubby sounds like mine he wont touched anything that he dont know and will always prefer the meat than anything with colors on it strange but i guess common to men LOL
i sure wish we are neighbors, we have so many things in common i'll be coming over and you can cook as much as you can and i will eat it till i cant eat no more or i will try to pretend haha!
thanks for sharing and get well soon..

Actually, I love to cook. I just don't want pork chops and steak and hamburgers all the time! I like all kinds of food. I can't make a small portion of lasagna or chili. I love soups and stews. Homemade deep dish pot pies. I love food, lol. It's kinda obvious too.
He doesn't do soups, salads, chili, or stew. The only vegetables he will touch are french fries, baked potatoes, black eye peas and corn. The only condiments are ketchup and BBQ sauce.
I need salads and veges and choice.

I always thought Americans suffered from obesity more because of the many fast food restaurants in that country. It's not a good news to learn that there are even more Australians with this problem as well! I guess the general trend would be that both countries have large farm lands which grow and house cows and pigs. This makes Americans and Aussies avid meat-eaters, although all this is just speculation. If meat is the trigger to obesity, then we should start going vegan soon!

hello mimico,
i agree with most of your part but i have to disagree with the later part, you have to understand that meat specially beef is not fattening at all. i have lose a lot of weight by eating meat often than pasta and bread.
if you are used to eating lots of rice, bread, pasta and dont exercise or do a job that requires body movement it will becomes fat on your body and that often is the case.
i think the problem with both country is that they have a lot of fast food company who serves fried foods and not a balance diet at all. also if you will noticed the serving sized of food you will say that one meal is enough for 2 person, i remember dining to this italian restaurant and i order a lasagna and that portion is enough to feed my hubby, my dad-in-law and me (and here that is just a normal portion)
i often have that problem here as i feel the meal is way too much and the thing is often buyers seems to eat it all and their body gets used to it.
i know Mcdonalds is trying to make their meal a much better one but still i rarely see customers buying those and still stick to the meal they are used to.
anyway, balanced diet is important to avoid obesity anything too much is bad and i feel it all applies in everything we do in life.
thanks for sharing your thoughts.

hello vanities,
yes, i have seen that common here but there are times that i am seeing younger kids and teenagers and i think it is not fair as the family is limiting the kid's enjoyment of life - you know some human can be really cruel when it comes to obese ones.
anyway, you are not alone we are hoping to lose some weight as well i will be cooking more meat than pasta now i guess and maybe less pizza LOL
thanks for the response.
