my 5 year old kitty has a serious case of bad breath! sometimes i feel as if something has died inside! LOL. but seriously. he does have bad breath. although there are times when his breath is tolerable there are also days wherein it really reeks! the vet has examined him and his teeth are all intact. he eats normal pet kibble and drinks a lot of water. what could be the cause of this?

I know this will sound sick to you but I wish I was there to smell your cats breath. I worked with cats for 4 yrs. in a shelter and then 2 yrs. in a vet clinic, bad breath if not the teeth can also mean sickness but you might want to try the food first.

I remembered something else too. You might want to take the cat to the vet and have them check the anal glands if they are full it will give both dog and cat bad breath. like I said I just remembered this because I have been do that all day with the dogs I groom. If not that try the food and I dont know if you had any blood drawn but thats what I would do. GOOD LUCK

oh my :( what could it be. my cat is a bit obese. he is a local asian cat and is 7 lbs overweight. do you think it has something to do with his weight? :( im so worried now.

I have two 6 month old kitties and to me their breath is horrible the vet has not said anything about their breath though. It might just be the smell of the cat food they are eating which I think also smells yucky.

Hi! Sounds to me like you should change his food. Do you give him variety foods? If you give a cat the same food every day, it will also smell. That is normal. So, try changing his food. Good luck Take care, Margajoe

You've taken him to the vet, so you've done the biggie. Did the vet recommend a cleaning or notice any teeth that were going soft? If it's not the teeth themselves, you might want to try changing his food to a healthy tooth and gum formula or give him the fresh breath treats for cats. If you've never had a cat before, it might just be normal cat breath, too. Most catfoods don't smell too great, and he'll smell like whatever he's eaten. If he goes outside and goes hunting, at all, what he's eaten might include an old, rotten animal!
