ELEVEN RULES OF LIFE :-
Rule 1 -- Life is not fair Get used to it.
Rule 2 -- The world won't care about your self-esteem & will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.
Rule 3 -- You will NOT make $40,000 a year - right out of high school & won't be a vise-president with a car phone until you earn both.
Rule 4 -- If you think your teacher is TOUGH, wait till you get a BOSS.
Rule 5 -- Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity, your grandparents had a different word for burger flipping -- they called it opportunity.
Rule 6 -- If you mess-up, it's not your parent's fault, so don't whine about your mistakes. Learn from them.
Rule 7 -- Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes & listening to you talk about how cool you are. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.
Rule 8 -- Your school may have done away with Winners & Losers, but life has not. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades & they'll give you as many times as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.
Rule 9 -- Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers Off and very few employers are interested in helping you find yourself - DO that on your own time.
Rule 10 -- Television is NOT real life, in real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop & go to work.

i've read this one somewhere before. but the context is a little different. it was something like a talk given to high school students by bill gates. reading through the rules, it's so true that i sat and thought long and hard. i love the part about flipping burgers. i worked part time at a fast food restaurant when i was in school and loved the job. it never occurred to me that it's beneath me or not. it's really an opportunity to earn my own keep.

Well, his 11 rules really make good sense!
It is all practical and good advise.
Especially the one about life is not TV.
It is so true.
Kids now a days cannot differentiate between what goes on in TV and what goes on in life. They try to emulate TV so much so that they think it is cool to actually do it like they do on TV. Making so many of today's kids such melodramatic mamas and papas!
AND the part about flipping burgers? Well, it is a job. As long as one does not feel that a job is below him/her, he/she will go far. Really far!

yes the part about tv is so true. even adults fall for that one. i know people who tell their partner that it's not like that in the movies. of course it's not like that. in the movies the people are beautiful AND intelligent. how many of that can you find walking the streets? i really wonder what's wrong with these people. guess i learnt about life the hard way, having worked since 14.
can you imagine some of the whiny teenagers are now parents? i really shudder whenever i think of that. :p

I can believe Bill Gates saying this stuff. It's true and I think Bill Gates is one of those people who got rich the old fashioned way, he worked for it and was very clever about what he's done with his money. You have to hand it to Bill Gates when he talks about getting rich, he knowns what he is talking about.

Yeah... I to believe that it is possible that he really did say all that to a hall of students.
He is from the old school of hard-knocks who made it to where he is today by working hard. A little elbow grease here and there to get to where he is today.
I am not the least bit surprise if you told me he used to flip burgers at some point in his life. I too took on a job in a fast food joint during my youth as well.
There is no shame in it what so ever. It is honest day's work for a honest day's wage to put food on the table.
