I do not think that the customer is ALWAYS right, but when you work in a position that you are dealing with customers constantly you have to find a way to make them feel right, but understand that they are wrong. This can be very tricky and force them to be irate if done incorrectly. One way is to not play the blame game sometimes you have to take responsibility for their actions

The customers are not always right, actually being a cashier for more than 3 and a half months has made me see some things that made you totally freak out if you would have seen them. There was this lady (while i was employed) that came with a frozen chicken and it had no bar code (you know the one that is used for scanning the product) and she was in line at a fellow cashier that sent her to me (don't ask me why, to this day i don't know) - so i explained to her that i can not give her that product as it has no bar code on it and that she should get another one with a code (i was at a 10 product line maximum so it would not have lasted long for her to do that) - but instead of getting another product, she started crying begging me to give her the product - i mean what was that ?!? So customers can come in different size and shapes. I expect to be treated with respect - that is all - i respect the cashiers and i expect them to respect me (after all, i am buying from their shop).
