What can I do?

My spouse snores. It often keeps me awake. They have only begun snoring in the past year or so and it has really gotten a lot worse in the past six months. Doesn't matter what position they lie in - back, side, even stomach! And their mouth is closed! I can't figure how you could make that much noise with your mouth closed. Do you have any remedies? We've tried BreatheRite strips and NoSnore tabs and throat sprays, ear plugs for me, music to cover the sound. But nothing has been really very helpful. We have an appointment with an eye, nose, throat specialist next month. Maybe they can do something. I need more sleep! I end up being up half the night and then sleep have the next day, because I'm retire and don't have to go to work. But is screws up the days if I am in bed until nearly noon! Help!

I'm glad your spouse is seeing a doctor because snoring is not only annoying, it can be dangerous. There are several things the doctor may be able to do and it sounds like you've tried everything you can try at home so maybe you should sleep in another room for awhile. It's actually very common for married couples to sleep apart if something is disrupting the ability of one or both of them to get a good night's sleep.

Thanks. I sometimes think I will send them to the couch, but then relent. I use a CPAP so have to stay in our bed to use that when I sleep. Otherwise I'd just get up and go to the couch myself!

I think you should try to continue sleeping in the same bed. I would say it's a better idea to get the snoring treated. Like spalladino said it is dangerous and needs to be addressed. I would sleep in different locations as a last resort. It's good for a couple to share sleeping together at all ages.

That kind of snoring entails that their is a problem in the health of your spouse. Probably, there is a problem in the airway, it could be a partial occlusion of airway during sleeping. It really is a must for you to consult the doctor and have a physical and diagnostic examination. I hope this problem of yours will be over soon.

Youdontsay you are doing about the only thing you can do and that is go to the doctor... Some of those over the counter remedies help some people if the problem is not to bad. My husband snores and all I have to do is make him roll over, that stops it.... He has told me that I snore sometimes as well, but I have allergies and I know it is my sinuses. If I take an antihistamine before bed that often helps me as well... Good luck with this Iknow how disconcerting a problem like this is.

Hey, this is so timely. My hubby snores too. At first I thought it's because he's tired... but then it gets too loud that even my 2-year old kid is complaining that "Daddy is noisy" hahaha. He is also going to see a doctor. So at least that's a good step to find out the real cause. Some say it has something to do with the oxygen intake or something. Whatever it may be, a least both our hubby's are willing to see someone. Goodluck!

Sounds like s/he needs a sleep test to see if s/he has developed sleep apnea. Snoring, especially loud snoring is an indication of apnea.

Thanks. I've been lobbying for a sleep study. Her physician thinks it may be more related to sinus issues. So we will see what the ENT specialist has to say.

I believe that lots of people now are facing the same harassment.Listen to other people's snores when you lying on the bed at night is a extremely painful thing. When I was in the college, one of my roommates just have the habit of snore.Nearly every night I had to cover my head with quilt. So I have the habit of sleeping only by myself now.I think I can understand your feeling. My suggestion is you can send your spouse to see the doctor because snore is also a kind of disease and should be cured.

Thank you. I think it would be worse if it were just a college roommate and not someone I love. I'd have trouble not throwing a shoe at them!!!

Yes I would check him out with eye, nose and throat specialist. He might suggest a sleep clinic where they watch him for one night and decide on what can be done'to help; his snoring. good luck and God Bless.

hi yds. it's great that you're seeing a specialist for your husband's snoring problem. there is a condition sleep apnea and snoring is one of its symptoms. it is a case wherein a person stops breathing during sleep because his air passageways are blocked. anyway, in the meantime, you can ask your husband to exercise and diet so he can lose weight. if a person is overweight, there are more chances that he will snore during sleep. the strip, pills, and sprays can work but i feel these are just short-term remedies. good luck and i hope this case is resolved immediately.

This is also universal problem.Out of 10 people you can say 6 will have the problem of snoring, this develops gradually with age,I mean as we grow elder. And study tells it may lead to heart attack. No need to open mouth, some may snore with their nose. There is no problem in consulting speceialist.Take care.

I have this problem too with my husband, and I have never found the solution. We have tried the nose sprays, and inhalers, and they help, but they do not take away the problem. Hopefully the specialist will be able to help. Your spouse may need to have the adenoids taken out which will generally stop the issue. This is what they told my husband and myself, but we have not found the time to get the procedure scheduled. Best wishes on getting some sleep in the near future!
