Make My Legs Stop Please?

Okay I have had this problem for a long time but the pregnancy seems to have made it much worse. My legs dont like to rest. I can be dead tired and yet when I lay down my legs get itchy and restless. Even while I sleep my hubby says I am kicking him all night long. Now I have heard of restless legs syndrome and will be talking to my doctor about this but I wanted to see if anyone else had this problem. And what they did about it? Is there anything I ccan do to get to sleep at night easier?

I experience this nightly, and it was greatly increased when I was pregnant with my children. At the time, restless leg syndrome hadn't been talked about much, and I didn't know what it was. It helped to place a pillow between my knees while laying on my side. My husband also spent time each night rubbing my legs with lotion. For some reason, this seemed to relax me enough to let me go to sleep. When all else fails, try sleeping on the couch or a reclining chair. It helped for me to go to a spot in the house where I wouldn't normally sleep.

I like the idea of my hubby rubbing my legs im gonna get my lotion out tonight for sure. I already do the pillow thing as I have boney knees and hate the feeling of them touching.

My legs get restless every now and then too. I don't do anything for it. I do know there is medicine for it, but with you being pregnant you probably can't take it. Hopefully once the baby is born that it settles down for you. I don't know of any home remedies but someone here is bound to have an idea for you.

If you were to ask my mother-in-law, she would tell you to put a bar of soap in your bed. She says it works. She is an old-fashioned kind of remedy gal. I used to have RLS, as do many people with fibromyalgia. Some have to take medication for it. I remember when I was pregnant I had problems with my feet. I would get up in the middle of the night and run cold water on them. The doctor gave me a mild sleeping pill for that during both my pregnancies. Today I have found a good cream that helps with my feet. As far as RLS, magnesium is said to help for that. It also helps with leg cramps, which you will probably get a lot of while pregnant. I remember getting one in my leg which lasted for over a week! But that was before fibro and before I knew about the many benefits of magnesium. I am not sure whether it's magnesium alone or magnesium with malic acid (known here as Mag-Citrate) that helps with the RLS. Magnesium is a supplement that aids in over 300 bodily functions. It is not harmful to you while pregnant. Do a search online for Restless Legs Syndrome and see what comes up. Good luck!

I've had this problem for as long as I can remember. When it strikes it really drives me mad, it's made me cry even. Thankfully, it does not happen to me that often. A few years ago I learned that there is a medical term for it- restless leg syndrome and I was amazed that a lot of people actually have the same problem. There's also a medication already available in the market for it...although I'm not sure since you're pregnant, if you can take it. When RLS attacks, I usually walk it off or shake my leg so bad until I get tired and really sleepy it couldn't keep me from dozing off anymore. I haven't considered the med yet because I believe they are only recommended for those who have attacks often.

yeah, when your symptoms are that bad, you might really need to take it. It drives my husband crazy too when I start shaking my leg while in bed, it wakes him up or keeps him from sleeping. So I usually just get out of bed.

It's probably partially hormonal. You may try to put your knees over a pillow to alleviate pressure on your low back. You could try a pregnancy massage. We offer them where I work, and a lot of mothers to be feel better because of it. It's usually completely safe in the second trimester if you don't have any complications.

i wish I could afford to go get a message. It seems everything is hormonal during pregnancy lol.

I think this is medical problem related to your pregnancy, I think your baby compress you vessels so your legs won't get enough blood and you will feel itchy as you said, you have to seek for medical advise. You may try to massage you legs with some olive oil and make some exercise, this will increase the flow to your leg

Hi there minnie_98214, I think you need to bath your legs on a bucket of warm water some salt and aromatherapy for relaxation oil. Salt will help tired and the ichy thing that's bother you all night. You can do it with watching tv or view garden and close your eyes and Relax..

The only thing that I can think of that might help you minnie would be walking, Stretching, and exercising regularly, taking a hot or cold bath, using massage, and avoiding smoking and caffeine may reduce or control your symptoms.

hi minnie there is a medication for helping restless legs syndrome and your doctor can prescribe it. I used to have that also and only getting up and walking would help me. but I havent had that for ages so never bothered my doctor about it. I did have it when I was hospitalized a year ago with 'bleeding diverticulitis and was on strict bed rest do I could not get up and walk. lol. they did give me something for it however.

This always works. Shhhhhh, left leg, go to sleep. Shhhhhh, right leg, go to sleep. I would check with your sawbones about RLS though, it can become serious, but the pregnancy could be causing a stir in your legs too. Hang in there.

I do have RLS though it is not that bad or very frequent. I think that they make some medicine for it but I can't say for certain. I have seen commercials about it recently on television, so I know there is something that may be done about it.

My mother is on medication for that, but it doesnt seem to help a lot. Tylenol will make my legs jerky and restless, but that's about the only time i have the problem

My legs have started itching at night as well. The only thing I do is scratch them and try to sleep. Talking to your doctor is really the best solution I can think of. I hope you get it all worked out.

I've had a problem with restless legs for years. One thing that seems to help me is to take a long hot bath with Epsom salt. It relaxes the muscles all over.

Sounds like Restless Leg Syndrome. I would have that checked out by a doc. There is medication for it. But if you are prego I don't think you can take it.

I experienced the same thing when I was pregnant. My legs always felt like I couldn't keep them still. It drove my crazy. I never really found a solution for it, other then what was already mentioned the leg rubbing. Try taking a warm bath to relax the muscles.
