I do not know where the word "guy" comes from, but I would almost want to say it was a derivative of the name. I can't be sure which came first the name or the term, lol. However, I don't know if a girl should be called a "guy" unless they are in a group. Therefore "Hey Guys" can mean either genders. Have a Great day.

I forgot about "tomboys" or one of the guys. That's a good reference. Although, some people do not like being called "tomboys" heh, I think there is also a word for a Feminine male, but one that isn't derogatory or means "Gay". As for a "hot" term, what do you mean?

I don't know where the word guy came from... but there are some women here in my country who are using this word as a sort of nickname... and one of them is a famous actress named Nora Aunor... she is oftentimes called guy... and i really do not know why... i guess they are just fond of that word...

I think guy came from African culture or something like that, if I can recall. It's like on like the Spanish word chico. Chicos means kids. Chico means boy. Chica means girl. So it has happened before.
