I didn't really know where to put this, as I do not have politics as an interest currently. I just saw a blurb on the news about this. South Carolina has somehow decided that it's okay to embrace just ONE branch of religion by deciding to offer these license plate frames that have a cross and 'believe' or something on them? I am reading that a group has filed a lawsuit, hopefully preventing this from actually happening. I will add some text and a link to the story in a moment, I guess mylot is not working correctly and saying I have not reached 500. GRRRR.

I'll tell you what, if S.C. does that plate for one religion, they had better start making sure all religion type plates are available to everyone in that state that has a different religion. What's the matter with this picture? I thought forcing religion upon people in any kind of way was illegal. Isn't that why they took praying out of schools?

Yes, separation of church and state. It is illegal for the state and/or government to promote religion anyway, much less cater to just ONE. I should see if I can find an update to this, this happened 6 months ago.

Yes, I'm pretty sure there is a law on that. Please post it if you should come acrossed it. I recall there was a whole controversy about it, because there was talk about taking In God We Trust off of the money and something to do with a plaque on a building. I'm not sure if it was a court house or what but had to do with the same senario. They should just leave well enough alone, afterall, all the changes that are going on right now with this country has not turned out for the better.

I live in South Carolina. And they need to carry on with this action. Why do they want to keep this from happening? God would mot be pleased with this at all..

Why do you have to put your religion on your license plate frame?

I am sorry but this is almost akin to introducing yourself and instead of stopping there, adding a whole list such as - I'm married and I'm straight - or some such nonsense. What is the point of proclaiming something that doesn't need announcing? I don't generally ask what religion anybody is, I don't really feel that's something I need to know unless that person judges ME because I don't share it.

so SC wants to have only one type of religion in the state? I'm not quite sure that I understand what you are saying :(

Here is the basic information: COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A group that advocates separation of church and state filed a federal lawsuit Thursday to prevent South Carolina from becoming the first state to create "I Believe" license plates. The group contends that South Carolina's government is endorsing Christianity by allowing the plates, which would include a cross superimposed on a stained glass window. The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court for South Carolina, asks a judge to stop the state from making the plates and rule that the law allowing them violates the First Amendment. http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/R/RELIGIOUS_LICENSE_PLATE?SITE=1010WINS&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2008-06-19-19-27-27 (entire story) I am sorry this was not included in the original post. I meant to include this but last night I still could not c&p, I must've been attacked by a mylot post count gremlin. I feel this is not okay to embrace or allow for ONE religion, and also, there is the separation of church and state. Somebody in another thread mentioned that it was instituted to protect the church from the government, but what about protecting other people who are not religious from it? Just something to think about. It always tends to be a hot button, that's for sure. I was watching news reports on this for awhile.

I it is ridiculous that anyone would think having a crucifix on your car would make you a good person. Actually, that is why I dislike Christianity as a whole- alot of people who call themselves Christians don't really live by what is written in the bible and taught by Jesus. The main example being 'this is my commandment that you love one another as I have loved you' Most Christians I come across are really judgemental of others.

I was actually thinking if such a thing were ever to pass where it was okay, then I would probably just avoid people who decided it was a great idea to put on their cars. I wouldn't want somebody to hit me, they might try to sue ME. LOL!

I really wish this country and its politicians would realize that there are many other religions besides Christianity. There is no official religion in this country. It's a shame that so many think so. I hope the lawsuit is successful.

I agree. I believe this is the point of the whole lawsuit - it is not fair to show support to one religion separately. Better to stay out of it entirely is my guess.
