Retro Gaming

What are your views on older games? As in, Playstation 1 and before such as the PC Engine, SNES, Mega Drive, Master System, NES, Mega CD and, if you're familiar with them, the Spectrum, Commodore and Amstrad? I love playing retro games because they have such a unique charm, a charm that does not exist in modern day games. There's something about the older games that I love, but I cannot place my finger on it. I think it's because more concentration was placed on gameplay and difficulty, rather than the modern day fancy-dancy graphics with relatively no difficulty. I own many old computers and games consoles and used to play them a lot, but they are now all packed away in the loft having discovered the wonders of emulation on the Internet. Anyone here share a fondness for older games?

I love retro games! We didn't have any game systems when I was a kid, we had computer games. I loved the Keen series, those were great! And Wurm. There were a bunch of fun games like that. I actually still have an old IBM XT set up just for playing these old games when I feel the urge to go back to playing them. You're right, they do have a charm that new games do not.

Oh wow, an IBM XT! Personally, I want to get an old 486 PC with Windows 95 or even Windows 3.1 and play the older games! I find playing old games in Vista and even XP to be a pain in the bottom. Old school rules!

You can run Windows 3.1 on a modern computer actually. But then, certain games require a turbo button which is no longer on computers. I have my old 486 still, but not still all set up like the XT, I'd have to put that one back together if I ever needed it. The computer I'm on right now has both Windows 3.1 and Windows XP on it. For DOS, I use DosBox since that little "Dos in Windows" thing that comes with Windows really doesn't work for a lot of the old games.

I completely agree: the older games appeared to be more fun than today's games, which could be argued take themselves a bit too seriously sometimes. Games like Grand Theft Auto are still a joy to play though, but in all, there's some unique charm about the older games!

i love old games. it's just that you don't have a save or continue option back then so you really need to be careful if you want to finish the game. (i am talking about NES games). those games are catchy & sometimes, you can't get enough of it.

i use to play retro games, when i played the ps1, my favourite game i played is called called unholy war with my brother. then later i leaned towards a computer game called starcraft, which is still a great game with many players still playing online. but i have leaned towards the modern game titles now such as counter strike: source and half life 2.
