I was first put on anti-depressents when I was 10 years old. For the next 13 years of my life I was on and off them... paxil, prozac, etc. I think that they did help a little. If anything they let me feel what it meant to be happy. I was so sad for so long that I think I actually forgot what it felt like. I am currently no longer on any meds and use diet and exercise to keep my mood from swinging so drastically. I do think, though, that for some people, they are a crutch and an excuse. They want to be able to blame their problems on something and use the pill as that something.

I'd have to agree with that.

Anti depressants don't help you unless you help them! lol it sounds complicated.. anti depressants just stimulate your depression! it's like if you take them and just let them take over you, you will just sit there not feeling anything! you won't feel happy or sad.. it's kind of like a blah mood! now if you take them and say you go out for the night to have fun.. instead of just sitting there not having fun and thinking about how depressed you are, you will have fun! but while taking the anti depressants you have to make yourself do stuff that used to be fun before you were depressed!.. do you understand? if not i could try to explain it a lil more!

Anti-depressants stimulate your depression? Can you find factual research that concludes this? Or is it an opinion? "Blah mood"? Hmmm. I don't know what to say. My happiness seemed to improve when I took anti-depressants. I didn't have to "go out and make myself have fun". I don't think I really need an explanation; I've been on anti-depressants for 10 years.

They may help some people, but not everyone.

Im not sure. Never been on them. But I would say its not a good idea to get hooked on them. If you are depressed I think there has to be a better way to get help and fix whatever the problem maybe. I dont know..this is just my opinion and it may not be right for everyone. And Im definately not a doctor.

They help and I know they do! This is, of course, assuming that you are suffering from major depression. I know this because they have helped me. Sometimes the first one you take doesn't work and you have to try another one or two. They definitely help, though, if you take the right one. I don't believe that you should just take the pills though. It's extremely important to have follow up with a doctor and you should also get therapy with a mental health councilor.
