I like to watch drama series that are sort of unique in some sense. A drama that would make you anticipate for the next episode. A series with a touch of drama, comedy, action, and suspense is something to look forward to but three of these would really hook me up to watch it. A touch of love story would be something to spice up the drama. Another thing, it may not be necessary that the actors are well known. The actors may be new but can act the part with superb performance that you can never think of another actor who would portray that part. That's for me. So, what traits are do you look for in drama to really hook you up watching it episode by episode?

You're like me. We both look for something unique with wonderfully written story and quality performance from the actors.

I like drama. Not in my life, just on the little screen. I look for quirky characters. I like someone who doesn't try to be anything else that they're not. And Grissom on CSI is the perfect example of this. And that's why I love that show. I also like when the cast is all different. It makes the show more realistic. Instead of having one dimensional people talking.

For me, it's characters. There has to be at least one - preferably more- characters I care about. Strong friendships among the characters on shows also helps. I can be a fan of some romantic relationships, but I'm a sucker for a good tv friendship between people. And, characters are why I can watch a bunch of shows that might have the same general theme (hospital shows, crime shows, etc) without thinking they're just the same thing. They're not. No two crime dramas have the exact same group of characters with the exact same relationships. Good writing and dialogue helps. I'm not really a stickler for shows to be completely accurate - just as long as it's reasonably believable. Anytime I can have some emotional connection.

Yes, a good dialogue and writing are some the characteristics of a good drama. A story that you can relate and brought out emotions from you. Thank you for commenting.

The most important element I think is the storyline. It has to be interesting. Most of us are used to a girl meets boy whom another girl is interested in and wants to get rid of the first girl. Different scenes are shown but revolves on that same plot. Well, a good storyline should be something unique with new twists. And another factor to go along with that are good characters. A good bond between the on screen characters tends to make me more interested on how the story would affect each one.

I agree with you with what you posted about on how the story would affect each one of the characters. A really good story is something that would really catch the viewers' interest who will anticipate how the story ends. Thank you for your response.

I like it when a character loves someone and willing to let go and looks hurt just to make her/his happy. But in the end both are in good terms and understands of how life made them be part of each other's life in the past or maybe until the present.

You like the love story type of dramas. A bittersweet kind of love story. I like that kind of love stories too. Where they would experience hardship before happy endings or some kind of ending that's not tragic.

I like shows that deal with socio-politics as part of their plots. Also a like the characters to be more than their jobs, with hobbies and family concerns. The can't be 100% serious all the time, comedic breaks are good.
