Do you always bake birthday cakes?

My oven is not working right, so I have to buy all my cakes, for every occasion. Our local grocery store does a nice cake for under $10 and everyone is happy with that.

i haven't baked any cake because i don't have an oven but i'd love to make one someday..as per birthday's i always buy one at the cake shop..

Sometimes I buy cakes, but they are so expensive I try to make them if I can. It is hard for me to find even just a small cake that doesn't cost at least $30. If I don't have time to make a cake, sometimes I'll make something else, like brownies or cookies that that person likes. This past year I was so busy with school we ended up with a lot of interesting cake substitutes. But next year hopefully there will be more cakes.

I've always made them. I'll be making one this week for my son..I think it's going to be carrot cake. I love decorating them though I haven't decided what to put on his yet.

I used to just buy cakes, but for the last birthdays in our house (boyfriends, mine and the baby's) we have just made cakes for each other. My son's cake was pretty plain just cake with frosting and I wrote on it. My boyfriend made me a carrot cake that he decorated all by himself, and I thought it was really sweet. For his birthday I made a black forrest cake and I took a lot of time putting it together. He loved it. I have a pic of the cake he made me, I'm going to attach it.

My mother is a baker and she always bakes cakes for us. There are rare times when she buys them because she doesn't have time because she's working or something. But when it comes to me I can't bake her cakes or anything because she's always there so what I do is that I buy the cakes for her birthday.
