Mine sure is! And he is passing it along to his little sister. Help! How do I control this before I have two of them?

I have a drama queen and they can be tough. Sometimes ignoring the drama or giving very calm, low key responses can reduce the tendency since drama is usually for attention-getting purposes. If he/she has to get loud or crazy or cry to get your attention, then you are going to have two of them. Pay close attention when your child asks for something calmly and without too much emotion. Train them that you will respond only to calm voices and calm faces.

It is so hard to do that though, because we are cut from the same cloth! I was never that dramatic as a child, simply put, my mom ignored everyone in favor of the tv and my step mom would just beat our butts if we tried it. So I learned early. Now that I have my own kids, it is hard to keep a calm demeanor when he is screaming in my face. I have noticed that some other things have been popping out with my girl that show he is indeed teaching her early.

Yes, my child has always been over dramatic. She will 8 in September. I have just learned to ignore it and know what is real. She is not going to stop. She is just trying to reach out because she is from a broken family and me and her dad do not talk much. I just don't make a big deal out of it.

For the most part, I do the same, but there are times it is just impossible.

At 18 months my daughter is extreammly dramatic. She loves being outside and if you bring her in the house and shut the door - she runs to the other room screming runs back throws herself at the door then slides down the door and lays on the floor screaming. It is actually quite funny watching her do this but of course I have to hold back my laughing till shes not looking. But its the way she does it. She runs waving her arms and stompping loudly. She makes these screams that aren't really screams or crying they are I can't even expaline it but it is very funny. In trying to correct this we are telling her you have till 3 to stop or go to time out. We count 123 no 1.... 2......... 2 1/2..... 3 - just 123 and then we put her in time out. She has to stay there until she is done crying. Once she is done we let her come out. Our time out is not put your face to a wall or anything just sit down in a designated corner. Sorry I can't help too much I am going through it too. Let me know what works for your kids!

Becky is our drama queen. Any time any thing comes up she has to put on a show about it. Especially if it is something she does not like to do like washing the dishes. She squims around and scratchs and wiggels and takes ten times longer to do the chore then she would normally take if she just got down and did it. I have not been able to find anything to stop it. So guess you are going to have two drama queens/kings in your house.

My daughter can turn on the water works at the drop of a hat. She likes to put on a dramatic show. That kind of behavior works on her Daddy but not on Mommy. I tell her that all the time. So when she deals with me, it's for real. If she is upset or crying and I'm the only one home then I know that she is seriously in need of something and just can't express it any other way. She's a very good child and I'm so blessed to have her in my life.

My niece is a total drama queen. She has been since she was really little. My sister in law is always calling her a drama queen and she runs out of the room screaming, "I am not a DRAMA QUEEN!"

lol, sounds like she is old enough now to resent that... in a dramatic fashion. Oh to get these moments on tape and play it back! Then again, I am evil like that.
