Fate or rubbish

Do you believe that things happen in three's
My nan always use to say this, if for example two not so good things happened in the family she would have sleepless nights waiting for the third fate to come along.
Or do we just have a few times of bad luck and then take the goodluck for granted,,not really sure.

If we broke something when we were young,my mum would get us to snap 2 matchsticks to make the 3 broken things and if she heard of 2 deaths locally or in the family she would always expect a third. Strangely, that did seem to happen. Maybe, as you say,we spot the bad things.
