Do you like the present state education system in the UK? Or would you prefer that all schools be privately run so you could have a free choice for your children's education? Payment could be by lower taxes, or tax credits, depending on means testing. And why?

Another good question! Since my children are now grown up, it would not really affect me on a personal level. I think I would stick with the state education system but would give schools back to the educators instead of letting people who have no idea of 'real' life call the shots with regards to the curriculum etc. Schools should not be expected to devote lesson time to teaching (but, of course should encourage and support) basic moral standards etc That (IMHO) is the role of the parents.

Yes, good comment. My idea is a bit philosophical, in that I propose that the state should not be involved in anything not specifically appropriate for it to be involved in i.e. defence. The resulting tiny taxation levels - no income tax, only purchase tax - enabling people to obtain better deals through obtaining services honed to the bone of maximum cost benefit ratio through free market competition. Only my opinion.

In that case I'd probably agree with you as the consumer would soon root out the 'profiteers'. Your lack of tax would give us all a greater choice of how we spend the money we earn and anyone who didnt use the service wouldn't have to pay for it. I wonder if more parents would 'home-school' or just let their children learn at the 'university of life' because,if you made education compulsory either to a certain age or standard, you start to drag the penpushing policy makers back into the picture.
