Is the inflation similar to previous experiences?

The price rise all over the world is hurting people (poor and middle class). I just wonder how bad it is going to be. I have heard that in many countries along time ago, inflation was so much (and the value of currencies so low) that people had to carry money in carry bags to buy vegetables and other daily items. Could it go the same way( at least in some countries)?
