lot of people say they read quality material, it gives the authors views at a different perspectve, but how does it affect you if its not anything related to your life and fortunes, so why should one read junk written and certified as quality amterial by another person. instead why not read some comics wherby you get to relax your mind and improve your spirits

Well, there's definitely nothing wrong with reading comics. It's just that by reading comic you might not get much benefit as there's not much to read and the grammar used are usually not proper. Reading quality materials will give you more knowledge , increase your vocabulary and improve your grammar even though what you are reading might not be related with your life. Comic can be read for relaxing purposes but not all the time.

I see your point of view , but comics arent from literature type its become so typical these days, its not something that make you extend your knowledge in philosophy, life, experience of others.Comics are just full of silly news, gossip about famous stars.Reading books of different types history, romance, etc is more useful.i dont read comics , i just dont like them because i dont feel that i gain something from them. If you like reading them in your relaxing times its ok but dont make them like your pocket book.:)

I don't think something needs to be related to your life and fortunes for you to be affected by it. But, you go ahead and read comics and I hope you have a really good time, too. If they make you feel good, and very importantly, if you find them fun to read, that's wonderful. I'm not much of a comics reader myself, but everyone has their own tastes. I'm a little tired of people making reading into some dreary chore - something to do because you should. Why ignore the fun of reading? Not that there aren't other advantages to reading. But, if comics "improve your spirits" that's a great reason to for you to read them, and good going.

I used to be a big comic reader, mostly The X-men. Now I read webcomics. Part of me wants to say that you should read books, good ones, the classics! At least the classic authors. Realistically though, I would say read what you like. Comics can actually be very enriching.

It's a bit unfair to have a go at quality material as there are some great books that come under that label. I read both comics and quality material as I don't like labels and read what I want whether it is acclaimed or junk. You should always keep an open mind and read something because the story appeals to you not because everyone says its a good book.

I don't read comics but i don't as a rule read books off the best seller list either. I like books that let me escape to another place and time so that ican return refreshed and a little happier because i know that everything worked out alright somewhere.
