Elderly are facing growing neglect.

I read with sadness the paper today that of late there has been a steady rise in cases of elderly being abused, harassed and abandoned. I was thinking of myself of what will happen to me when I am old and frail. If I am penniless and worthless and no longer able to fend for myself, will I be a nuisance to my children and be dumped in nursing home waiting for my expiry date? This and hundred and one questions have bombarded me now. I pray that it does not happen to me. I am just wondering where has respect for our elders gone? The nursing homes are bursting with unwanted old people. What sort of attitude has taken over here?

Hello, zandi! Now a days the elderly people are reported to have been neglected.it is not in your country, but a case of all countries.they are left at home alone and the sons or daughters staying away from them.occasionally the pay visits but never take care of them.In my city there are lots of old people living alone including me.I think myself to be the watch man/care taker of the house,i and my wife clean the hose, cook for us and take for ourselves.in times need, none is there to assist us.however,i don't mind to be alone and do all works so long.some of my friends are living in old age homes.but life there is just hell.i don't like to stay in old age home.thanx.

Even neglected at old age, life must go on and only hope for divine mercy and blessings.

Its the lifestyle, now its much more difficult to spend time with your family. You have to work long hours and still be at home to take care of them. It can be tough, but i think it is wrong to let the elders in your family to be neglected. Sometimes i do feel that it is an act of being selfish. For me i am preparing for it, start saving as much as you can and make sure you prepare everything as early as possible. Stay healthy and wise.

I cannot accept the fact that lifestyle as an excuse for neglecting elderly folks. Yes, it is too selfish act. Having lots of $$$ will be an added insurance to see us thru old age.
