Did you know that margarine is almost plastic?

My mom sends me fact sheets all of the time. She is very into healthy eating and knows that I appreciate the info,
She sent me a fact sheet a couple of days ago that stopped me cold.
Did you know that margarine is only one molecule away from being plastic? Apparently when it was first invented, it was all white and it was supposed to be used to fatten turkeys for consumption. The turkeys died.
So to get their' investments back, they added color, flavor and a few vitamins and began selling it in the grocery stores as a butter substitute!
The fact sheet also said that margarine prevents you from absorbing certain vitamins and minerals and contributes to blocked arteries because your' body can't process it the way it can process butter.
Butter only has three more grams of fat than margarine and helps the body to absorb vitamins and minerals.
This blew me away. I have always used margarine...until now, that is.
What do you think of this? Does it surprise you?

Nothing surprises me any more. It is both frightning and sinful what is put into our food supply. I really feel that food manufacturers should be made to explain what is in their items. I know that the ingredients are listed on the container, but they really should tell us the effects of the ingredients and other information so that we can make an 'informed' decision. As a previous poster stated, I think I am going to begin eliminating 'fat free' and 'reduced fat' products from my diet and just eat smaller portions of the real thing.

I'm just begining to realise that food isn't always food. I'm trying to be more careful about what I eat and what I feed to my family. I guess my mom is rubbing off on me. She gave me a tip that I keep in mind now when grocery shopping 'real food rots.' If it doesn't rot then I won't be buying it simply because I'm hearing from people who have worked in the factories and won't eat what they had to help produce.

Nothing surprises me anymore. I used to work in a food factory and could not believe some of the things we put into food. The things we use for color or preservatives are pretty wild. I did come to one conclusion though after 10 years working there. I don't eat fat free or low fat foods because of the things they fill them with. I would rather just cut back on the real deal.

I hadn't heard about what they put in fat free foods but I don't eat them anyway. I do know a man who worked making ketchup and he refuses to eat ketchup because of it. Kinda scary to sit and wonder if what we buy is really even food.

Butter is more expensive but I've decided to start using it instead of margarine.
