Francis Bellamy wrote the Pledge of Allegiance in 1892.He was a Baptist minister.
So for over 100 years we have been saying this but has it's day come and gone?
Is the "Pledge" becoming a thing of the past because of one word?
I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG,
Seems simple doesn't it to say?
OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,
Still ok,right?
AND TO THE REPUBLIC, FOR WHICH IT STANDS,
At this point we are on auto-recite!
ONE NATION, UNDER GOD,
What a minute...did you say God?
STOP right there..not allowed..
INDIVISIBLE, WITH LIBERTY
we'll have to get to the freedom part later!
AND JUSTICE FOR ALL!
Justice is what? Where do you get it? Is there a country where it still exists?

Yes I do still say The Pledge of Allegiance and I do stand with my hand over my heart when the American flag goes by. It brings tears to my eyes when I here the pledge I especially like the rendition of Red Skelton. We have forgotten the meaning of the Pledge of allegiance but he remembers it so well it goes like this.
I -- me, an individual, a committee of one.
PLEDGE -- dedicate all of my worldly goods to give without self pity.
ALLEGIANCE -- my love and my devotion.
TO THE FLAG -- our standard, Old Glory, a symbol of freedom. Wherever she waves, there's respect because your loyalty has given her a dignity that shouts freedom is everybody's job!
UNITED -- that means that we have all come together.
STATES -- individual communities that have united into 48 great states. Forty-eight individual communities with pride and dignity and purpose; all divided with imaginary boundaries, yet united to a common purpose, and that's love for country.
AND TO THE REPUBLIC -- a state in which sovereign power is invested in representatives chosen by the people to govern. And government is the people and it's from the people to the leaders, not from the leaders to the people.
FOR WHICH IT STANDS, ONE NATION -- one nation, meaning "so blessed by God"
INDIVISIBLE -- incapable of being divided.
WITH LIBERTY -- which is freedom -- the right of power to live one's own life without threats, fear or some sort of retaliation.
AND JUSTICE -- the principle or quality of dealing fairly with others.
FOR ALL -- which means, boys and girls, it's as much your country as it is mine.

I pledge allegiance to my spiritual growth every day, but not to the flag. I was in the military when younger, but now see where that is going.
If I WERE to pledge to the flag, it would NOW be one nation under Goddess!

I think alot of the things such as that are far outdated...That aside though, I will stand for the Pledge (only because my husband prefers that I do) BUT I DO NOT put my hand over my heart nor do i recite it...and I dont make my kids do it either...in fact I refuse to adn my children are entitled to refuse it as well and holy crap let the school give them a hard time about it..I will raise right royal hell over it...
