The Sabbath

This is a question for those who believe the Bible to be the inspired word of God, and say they believe every word of it. Do you keep the Sabbath day as given in Exodus 20:8-11? Also, since it says clearly that it was the seventh day that God rested and blessed, why do you keep the first day of the week as the Sabbath?

Every book of the Bible is the inspired Word of God, so yes I do honor the Sabbath and keep it Holy. The Sabbath was designed to give man one day of rest. The Sabbath does not mean you have to go to Church on Saturday, but it does mean you should spend atlest one day resting your body so the rest of the week you have enough strength to make it through the week. On Saturday me and my husband go play golf, and then on Sunday we go to church. By the way I also celebrate Passover instead of Easter. Last time I checked the Last Supper was Passover. So if Passover was good enough for the Messiah it must be good enough for me.

Hi gewcew23, Thank you for responding. The Messiah also kept Saturday as the Sabbath. I don't think that it matters as Jesus said the Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. Blessings.

Technically, sabbath is from friday night to saturday night. Sunday is the first day of the week, not the last day of the week. Christians don't keep the original sabbath. They've changed the day of the week they call "the sabbath". But thats cool regarding Passover. My partner and I do passover, and we also do chanuka as well. Very cool.

It is my belief, that the Sabbath was part of the worship conditions set up by God for those in the Old Testament era. About 400 years before the birth of Christ, the era of the Old Testament era ended, then a 400 year period of silence before the birth of Christ. Christ set up the church as the new way of worshiping God. In the Old Testament worship was done on the day that God rested. In the New Testament the Church begins and worship is moved to the day it is believed that Christ was resurrected as He is the head of the Church.

If you read the New Testament, you will find that Jesus did a lot of healing and good works on the Sabbath day. The Pharisees were constantly giving Jesus a hard time for the works he did on the Sabbath day. As for me personally, I do not go to church at all. I do not set aside one day to serve the Lord. I serve him the same everyday. My faith is not about a religion, but a relationship with God. However, I can not speak for everyone.

Im am a Chrstian, so of course I don't keep the Sabbath. This would be obligatory only for Jews. Jesus is very clear about the meaning of the Day of Rest: "The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: so that the Son of man is lord even of the sabbath" (Mark 2:27-28). Also Paul is very clear about this: "Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of a feast day or new moon or a sabbath day" (Colossians 2:16) By the way, one should think that the week starts with a workday, and actually in many countries Monday is considered to be the first day. According to this, the Lord's Day, or Sunday, is the seventh day.

I believe that the Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath. I won't get into the significance of that statement but I will say that it is all about the act of remembering the Lord in our daily lives. I do not celebrate as in the OT partially because it was not given to the Gentiles in the first place, but to the Jews.

Exodus is part of the old testament. in the new testament Matthew 12:1-14 it speaks of jesus and his disciples going through the fields picking some heads of grain and eating them. the pharisees see this and say to him that what his disiples are doing is unlawfull on the sabbath? he tells them if they had a sheep and it falls into a pit on the sabbath will u not take hold of it and lift it out? how much more valuable is a man than a sheep!! therefore it is lawfull to do good on the sabbath... working etc. to feed your family.
