I think it would be better to quit than be fired. For one, if you quit, then you're probably already at least a bit prepared -- maybe you already have another job offer, or you have some money saved up. If you're fired, it might be a surprise, and you may not have any money to spare while you are looking for another job.

Of course, I would prefer a resignation letter. Who would want to get fired? Especially nowadays that there's a financial crisis and people are losing their job. I would rather resign if the situation calls it and it's a bit humiliating if you get fired, people look down at you as if you're the biggest loser in the world.

Persomally if they dont want you who cares how you go as long as you are free to go. If it makes a difference as far as collecting unemployment maybe its a concern. For the record, I suppose its better to resign than being fired! Sincerely :)

Of course I will prefer resigning than being fired because once you were terminated by any company, you will have a bad record and once you apply in another company they will not hire hesitate to hire you as soon as they have searched about you employment background.

Both may come just similar. Well, in fact both will lead you to a jobless status. In these times i prefer not to have both come to me. Although we have to accept that some companies just ride on the wagon and declare they are loosing, but in most cases they just want to reshuffle or hire new ones that are more competent, and have a new breed of employees on their side. I hate this kind of move but we are mere employees that need jobs and that we can just wait and see what happens next.

Off for a ride - A friend and I (I'm on the right) before we start a downhill ride in the Southern Oregon mountains. We both have hardatails, but it was fun.
I'd definitely prefer to resign. It looks better than being fired on employment resignations, and says that the job sucked, as opposed to the person doing the job (you) sucked. Plus, you can burn some bridges in the letter if you want without sounding like a total whiner.

Well actually I prefer to be laid off and not get to upset about it. I just got laid off last Friday. It was ok and they gave me a severance pay witch will help us out! Plus they will give me a good reference, and that will help me get a new job! Thanks!!! tdemex
