It was a very well-written book, but the subject matter bothered me. I read it when I was in junior high, but I remember some of the things that happened made me a little sick to my stomach. It was such a good story though that I had to finish it.

I have to agree that the thought of what actually happened to those kids and their mental state afterwards was not pleasant but you are right...the story was soooo good. I read the book when I was in 5th grade I believe. My momma had a book club membership and she got that book, read it, told me how good it was and the rest was history LOL I am also a native Virginia and know exactly where Charlottesville VA is (where she was from and where many of her stories took place). And I was just in the grocery store last night and saw that the newest VC Andrews book is now available. Usually when I start these books, I read all day (and hubby grumbles at me LOL)

Yeah that sounds familiar my bf gets annoyed when I have my fce stuck in a book all day and yes I agree what the Mother and Grandmother did to those children really was unbearable I cant imagine how anyone could be so cruel especially to their own flesh and blood it was very sad and no wonder Chris and Cathy ended up the way that they did it was all they really knew thanks to the Bit** Mom and Grandmother but in the end they get what they deserve I just started and let there be thorns so I am just to the part where Corrine moves next door to them geeze she has alot of gull I hope Cathy gives her what she deserves

I read Flowers In the Attic when I was in Jr. High seems like a lifetime ago but I loved that book and all of the other VC Andrew's books I read after that one. Keep reading you will love them all.

I read Flowers In The Attic when it first came out back in the early 80s and to this day I am still a BIG VC Andrews fan! VC Andrews passed away due to cancer back in the early 90s I think and the family was able to find someone to write just like her and elaborate on her stories. If I didn't know, I would not know the difference in writing. Those books are AWESOME. There is also a movie based on Flowers In The Attic but it does not due the book justice at all. Worth a watch though just because LOL

I read those books years ago, I may buy them and read them again lol. When I read them before I read them back to back, and believe it or not, there are a few inconsistencies in the series. But they were real good. Did you read the very first one? There is one that actually comes before 'Flowers in the Attic' It brings to light why the grandmother was the way she was. Good books.
