Yuppie flu is a common term applied for the clinical chronic fatigue syndrome. It is most prevalent among young professionals in their 20s and 30s. Hence the name. It is also called chronic Epstein-Barr virus flu, myalgic encephalomyelitis or shirker's syndrome. Previously it was believed that the symptoms were imagined by the patient, as it has much influence on the patient's sense of wellbeing. But now it is taken as a real syndrome. The disorder may be due to an overactive immune system. Also it may be related to gene mutations or a viral cause. The common complaints are muscle pain, cognitive disorders, sore throat and prolonged fatigue. No definite tests are available for this disorder.
