Doubt about online shopping?

I love the convenience of shopping online, but with all the theft we have around it is difficult sometimes.What can we do do to protect ourself as much as possible?
1.Create strong passwords for your store acounts.
2.Shop online with companies you trust.
3.You may consider a third party payment service like paypal or other.
Do you know anything else to prevent the theft of online shopping?

I only do my online shopping using my Discover Credit Card. It gives a different account number for each new purchase but does not give my actual credit card number. So it is immediately noticeable if someone tried to use one of the "blind" numbers more than once.
