Do you use flowers in cooking, for salads, flavoring, etc.? Which ones? How?

I use wild violet flowers and tame garden nastursiums in salads. I just pick the flowers and throw them in. I use dandelions for jelly and for dipping and frying in batter. Roses I use for recipes that call for rose petals for decorations, rose jelly, and rose water for recipes that use that instead of vanilla for cooking. So what flowers do you use and how do you use them for food?

It may be the most commonly used flower in some parts of the world, but until I started trying to cook Middle Eastern food, I didn't even know people used roses for cooking. Where I live, dandelions and certain violets are more commonly used. What is gulkandh? Thank you very much for responding.

I'm not sure what flowers around here I can eat - I sure can't grow them in my yard, I can't even grow WEEDS in some parts of my yard!

Some weeds are edible. You must be feeling better, you've responded to lots of stuff lately. Glad you're feeling better. I've gone on wild food walks for over three years. Plus I have three identification books and a wild food cook book although all three wild ID books have some recipes and you'd be amazed at all the wild food pictures and recipes on the internet. Take care

I did that some back when I was younger, healthier and much poorer. I really enjoyed it, but I'm such a city gal that these days I'd rather look at the country side from the inside of my car. I still fantize about getting out and walking, but its not much fun alone and I don't have anyone to do it with, even if I could do it.

This is why I thought being a companion to people who have no one to go places with would be such a great job. But everyone thinks I would get raped or killed. But so many people need someone to go with places. Even if it's just to the side of the road and back to their car. Or even if it's just to pick wild stuff for them. Oh well. Take care

I enjoy using flowers in my cooking, especially when I'm trying to please a Lady! :) Because of the disturbing losses of wild honeybees, I have stopped gathering wildflowers... I most certainly recommend growing wildflowers in your own garden so that you can have some say about the quality, plus you can keep track of the honeybees. They are in trouble-- I have yet to see any this year! My main choice of flowers is squash blossoms, very tasty ans beautiful and easy to grow! :) I also love cooking with tea, and because this is a really cool question, I'm going to share Tea Chef with you! :) Enjoy! :) http://www.teachef.com
