How is your gas and electric meter read?

I know some power companies have computerized access and some still have a meter person come out. Our electric company is Baltimore Gas & Ripoff, oops, I mean Electric; and they still use a meter person. I can remember as a teen in the 1970's the meter man would come by and say "meter man" and we would let him in the house. Our meter was in the utility room. In my current house, the meter is in our backyard, behind a locked fence. I try to remember to prop open the gate if I am not home, but the past two months I have been home and have received estimated bills because the meter person didn't make any attempt to announce himself. It was very clear that we were home because he had to walk in between two cars to get to the gate to see if was closed. How hard would it have been for him to yell "meter man"? BGE has plans, who knows when, that they can read the meters via technology. I wish they would take the 80% hike increase they slapped on us, and put that money to getting this job done quicker.

Well I live in Northwest Ohio and we are suppose to be the highest gas and electric rates. Our electric company changes its name so much I never know who to make the check out to lol. There is a meter outside for both gas and electric but I have never once seen a meter reader for either company. I am a stay at home mom with a dog so I think I would know if someone was in my yard. I would rather they take their rate increase and use it for getting our bill done more correctly. Our gas bill will be $300 a month for about 3 months and then a $10 bill. That would make me extremely happy!

By chance is your electric company owned by Constelletion Energy? That's who swallowed up our company. Thanks for the response.

I am not sure who owns the power company here. It changes names every few years. I just look at the bill to see who I am suppose to make the check out to this month. LOL Thanks for the best response.
