i heard on the news that our local Catholic school board is tossing around the idea of having year round school for their students...what do you think? i know my 11 year old would be totally in favour because yesterday, on her last day of school, she said the summer vacation is too long! i think they should go to school for 3 months, then have like two weeks off and do that all year (the kids in these parts get 2 whole months off for summer).

Are you guys kidding me?? Common, they are just kids.. Let them have some spare time during the summer to have some fun. They already will have enough things on their mind once they're grown up. You all had probably two months or more of summer vacation.. why won't your children have? In my country this will never occur (I hope so) because all school vacations and spare times are imposed by law so it's not possible to have different vacation regulations in several schools. Either does none school have this regulation, or either all schools have it, but there could not exist such thing as a "mixed regulation", which in my eyes is a good thing.

My elementary school had year round school for about two years but then they got rid of it because it was really inconvenient, no one really liked it and it was really working out too well.

I think that year round school might not be so bad. When I was in school we had off from the first week of june till the last week of august. so that is quite a bit of time off. but then after that you had 9 months of pretty much constant school. I think it would have been better to have more time off in between. i think it would take some of the stress off.

I live in FL where we actually have year round school The parents like it quite a bit but I've yet to find a kid who does. I think they get only 2 weeks off in the summer, if they attend a year round school. I am sure that there are some educational experts out there who think year round school promotes better learning for some kids. When my son was young, we really looked forward to the summer and just having more time to do activities together. I don't think either one of us would have liked him to be in school all year. Yet, I can see some advantages to it for kids who struggle with school and learning.

That might not be a bad idea if the breaks the kids get are long enough. The only drawback I see would be that families with both parents working would have to have year round childcare arrangements. I remember when I was a kid that I looked forward to summer vacation but I eventually got bored with it, too.

i think kids should have summer off. summer is the time where you can do more things outdoors than winter and go on vacations like beaches instead of far away. to me I hope it doesn't go through. my kids definately like summer off.
