If God can forgive you....you can forgive yourself

When I gave my life to the Lord my pastor would say this in his sermons. "If God can forgive you, you can forgive yourself". So as christians why do we have such a hard time doing so? I mean the bible says that He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and He casts our sins into the sea of forgetfulness.
Do you have a difficult time forgiving yourself when you mess up? I know that I do sometimes.

I think we have a tough time forgiving ourselves because the Accuser of the Brethren, the Devil, is always there whispering to us things like: You're worthless, How could you have done something so horrible, You hurt that person, So and so is mad at you, and on and on..... Somehow, he makes his voice sound like our own and is constantly bringing up things the Lord has forgotten, and makes us carry them around again. While we are forgiven and perfectly clean from our past in God's eyes, Satan is always trying to make us feel dirty and condemned.

I agree. I think that's why it's soooooo important that we read God's word. It is the truth and if more of us read and meditated on what he says it would be easier to get past the condemnation.

i am not what some would a christian but i think it's because we let ourself down at time. i also had a hard time forgiving myself, then one i sat down and watch a few shows and read alot.
i finally learn to forgive myself for all my mistakes and faults. even went to people and asked them forgivness.
i think it's hard to forgive ourself because its us admitting we were wrong

I do find it really difficult at times to forgive myself of certain things. Especially when I hurt someone I love unintentionally of course. I tend to beat myself up when I do that.
