How many books do you read?

What I meant was, how many books do you read at one time? I would read 3-5 books at one time. I would read one book, got stuck at maybe one-third, then skip to the next one and maybe got bored and move on to another one and so on. I would eventually finish all the books, only that some will take a longer time. A few books however got my undivided interest, like Da Vinci Code, Tuesday with Morrie, Sherlock Holmes series. Other than this, I can't seem to focus on just one book. How about you?

Usually, I am reading 2 minimum. One is usually for work (either editing or reviewing, which may or may not count, but it's still reading), and at least one other one that I am reading for leisure. Whether it's one or more that I read for leisure usually depends on how much free time I have.

I edit and review both fiction and nonfiction. To be honest, I've never had trouble getting stories (plots or characters) confused with fiction. I have found that good authors have a distinct voice and their characters have their own personalities, so the distinction is usually very easy. Besides, the genres are not always the same. I'm not going to confuse the plot of a fast-paced mystery with that of a medieval fantasy.

Do you do editing or reviewing on fiction or non-fiction? If fiction or stories, how do you keep the 2 books apart, that means, to ensure that you have not gotten your work mixed up with your leisure?

Wow, you are really fast - 2 books in one day, and about 300 pages each. Did you take up speed reading?

For novels, well, I tried reading more than one book at a given time. While I can handle it to a certain extent, I do not really feel comfortable doing so. But if these are books that I read for my lectures, I can read many books at a given time without getting distracted. Yeah, even if they are of different subjects.

It's been quite some time since I read books for lectures. I suppose I must have done the same you did - we have to take up so many subjects at one time. Anyway, thanks for responding and have a good day!

I am quite the opposite, I can't read more than one book. I have to finish one before I start on another. I can read several non-fiction books if I am studying something, but reading for pleasure I get so involved with the characters and the plot I can't leave a story half way through. If I start a new book and its no good I will abandon it, but that is very rare as I usually pick authors I know and like or ones with a reputation for good writing.

I do pick authors I know and like, but somehow, some books are not up to their usual standard; so I'd put them aside, and start another book, or continue with one that I've started. Thanks for responding and have a good day!

I only read one book at a time, but I read fast so usually I can finish a book in 3-4 hours. I took a bunch of spead reading courses which helped. To be honest, it somewhat took away the enjoyment of reading though. I get through things so quick that it seems like a waste to buy all the books; and I'm not a big library go-er. I guess I should get better at that!

Oh, I didn't know that speed reading will take away the enjoyment of reading. I was thinking of taking up such a course. I don't go to libraries for my books (our libraries have very limited stocks of English books); and new books are very expensive. So I'd go hunting at book sales or secondhand book shops. Do you have these in your place?
