Non compromising pastors or motivational speakers

I'm a born again christian and believe that a pastor should preach about both sin and grace. I've been in some churches where the pastor preaches fire and brimstone and not once is the love of God mentioned. But I've also been in churches where the pastor is more of a motivational speaker. I'm bothered because I feel that the motivational pastor is just tickling the ears of people. Don't get me wrong the fire and brimstone pastor needs to loosen up as well otherwise the congregation will walk around in condemnation but I think that the motivational pastor is doing a huge disservice to his congregation. There needs to be a balance but as time goes on I see more and more pastors on the motivation side. Any ideas?

First of all, I agree totally with you. The only justification of preaching is to give God's special message to a special group of people, those who form the church a pastor takes care of. And God's message can be found only in the Scriptures. This has nothing to do with preaching fire and brimstone, but everything guiding people to spiritual growth in the steps of Christ. Admonishing may be part of it, but not in detriment of love and forgiveness. The only legitimate motivation for us Christians, is our love for Jesus and the whish to be his disciple. I think that part of problem is the desire for popularity, which has its origin in the new "worship of Christian Stars and Christian idols" as are the TV-preachers. Motivational preaching is in, that's enough, nobody asks if it's biblical. Paul did not fear to be impopular, he stated his case for Christ and a Christian life, take it or leave it. In Church history, the first millenium was dedicated to elaborate the correct concept of Christ as Lord and Saviour. The second millenium reformed the concept of man's salvation. The third millenium must surely bring up and reshape the concept of the Church. Let's contribute to it, declaring the truth like you did. God bless you!

Hi bubbles, I do not agree with preaching fear. Fire and brimstone only frightens people and doesn't make them better Christians. All pastors should preach about the love of God. Blessings.
