"Do you think home schooling is better than public school?"

I home schooled my children for 2 years and when one of my sons went into grade 3- they said he had a grade 8 reading level! Later I worked in the public school and thought they probably missed out on some great activities and some early social skills. When I talk to them about it they say I'm glad we were home schooled.

Home schooling by my vote is the far better of the two in my opinion. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. I guess it's up to each individual parent. It seems to me you did what you thought was best and your children are glad so maybe you need not worry about it. I only wish I had the maturity and knowledge you did to be able to make a decision of whether to home school when I had the opportunity. I would have liked to consider it but I was told you need a higher degree and a teacher's certification and pass tests. That is an impressive achievement you made that you and your children can say that you and they accomplished. I think they had the best of both worlds, public education and a smart, loving mom. Take care.

Thank you for your nice response. In Canada you don't have to have a teaching degree to homeschool, but you do have to submit monthly reports and at any given time they could come test your children. If you know anyone who is interested in homeschooling the cirriculam I used was called Abecka from Pensicola, Flordia.
