Where do people get the idea that life is so cheap? Teen killed cabbie over $8 fare - cops THE ASSOCIIATED PRESS Saturday, June 21st 2008, 12:45 PM WHITE PLAINS - Police say that a teenager accused of stabbing a cab driver to death in Yonkers did it to beat an $8 fare. Sixteen-year-old Dequan Duncan is awaiting trial on charges of second-degree murder in the death of cabbie Geraldo Gutierrez, who bled to death behind the wheel of his cab last month. Authorities say in court papers that Duncan confessed to the stabbing, but claimed he never meant to kill the driver. According to police, the teen told investigators he was only trying to wound the cabbie so he could skip out on a fare for a ride across town. He claims the driver pulled a knife first, but another teen who was in the cab told police that it was Duncan who drew a large blade and began stabbing.

Wow that is just really stupid. I mean if he didn't have the money why can't he walk? Everyone is going through hard times now and it's stupid that someone has to die in this way. Who knows if that poor cabbie had a family or something.

The cabbie probably did have a family, but even if he didn't, he still had himself...his own life. And no matter what, his life was worth more than $8.

He was worth way more than $8 and it sucks that something like this has to happen to someone that was just doing their job.

I hope the 16 year old gets put away for a long time. Maybe for the rest of his life.

At that age, that rarely happens. There is a court case and they talk about what a bad life the kid had, etc, etc.

Some people think they can do anything and get away with it. And some think that everyone else owes them a living. But,they find out different as this boy will soon find out.You eventually pay for your mistakes in life, even if it's a long time down the road. It is sad that some teenagers think that all you need is a knife and life is okay. If he didn't have the money, why go for a thrill ride? Why not walk? I'm glad that there was another teen in the cab that was willing to tell the truth. I wonder if he will be held as an accomplice in the murder?

He might get a lesser sentence since he came forth.

I would think he would. Most of the time, these others are innocent victims. The other person does these things on the spur of the moment and catches these others up in the problem. That is what is sad. Teenagers need to be careful with whom they run.
