What SPF sunscreen do you use?

With it being summer, going outside with sunscreen is a must. We usually use 50 spf sunblock since I don't want the kids to be sunburnt either. We also make sure we put it on a few times if we are swimming or outside for an extended period of time. When I was younger I used to use 15 spf and never seemed to get sunburnet, but now if I use anything less than 50 we get burnt. Do you wear sunscreen? What spf do you use? Have you had to go to a higher spf than you used to use many years ago?

I use a SPF45 sunscreen since I am very light skinned I burn terribly. I have always had to use a strong sunscreen. I remember when I was about 20 years old, I fell asleep on the beach and none of my friends woke me and it was a really sunny and windy day, and I got second degree burns on the back of my legs and spent 3 days in the hospital. Ever since I make sure I use lots of sunscreen and aply it often. That is one of the mistakes people make, not aplying it often enough. I put it on me about every two hours since it wears off. Or if I am swimming I out it on after I get out of the water.

I went fishing yesterday and was on the boat for about 6 hours and in the sun. I used a lot of sunscreen and luckily I didn't get burned too badly, just some redness, which I like in my face.

Aw, that sounds like an awful experience! I have been lucky and never burnt that badly before. I would be very careful now too!

Ever since having a 2nd degree sunburn a few years back on my chest and face, I tend to wear SPF 50 because I am light skinned and burn easily. Also, I am more susceptible to skin cancer due to the 2nd degree burns and I need to protect those areas! Ouch.

It's important to wear it! I've had some bad burns, but never anything too major.

I have been trying to remember to wear sunscreen more often. When I was in Mississippi in May we went swimming all day. I put sunscreen on but not on my back; just on my shoulders and face. My back and arms got so burned. It was painful! I use my Proactive sunscreen on my face because the other kinds make me break out. It is SPF 15 I think. For my body I use 30 or 50 because I just use whatever the kids are wearing.

I break out with certain kinds too - I can't do banana boat at all! I use what I put on the kids too, it's much easier!

I have 50 spf baby sunblock that I usually put on my daughter and sometimes on myself. I also have 30 spf that I use regularly on myself, and spf 15 oil that I use on myself. It depends how long I'm going to be outside and what I'm doing. I don't burn unless I'm outside for hours and forgot to wear any, but I do seem to get dark regardless of whether I wear any or not. I used to use like a 10 spf but now I prefer at least the 30, I'm no longer even ATTEMPTING to get a tan at all. I'm convinced the only way to avoid that though is to never go outside and my daughter would never go for that, she wants to go out and swim at least twice a day =P

I use 50 spf. I am very fair skinned and burn easily. Also I make sure that is has UVB protection as well as UVA. They have discovered that most skin cancers are caused by UVB not UVA rays.

I will have to look into that. I'm pretty sure ours is both, but you make a good point that not all sunscreens actually do what they're supposed to!

I use an spf everyday. Even in the winter, when you don't think there's much sun, your skin is getting damaged.

That is true it should be worn in the winter too if you are going to be outside. i don't usually go out at all in the winter though - too cold!!

Yes I definitely use sunscreen during the day time. I use something at SPF 50 because the sun is really stronger than before and I would like to make sure I am protected at all times.

We use an SPF 50 now. I had a melenoma removed a number of years back so don't go out in the sun withotu some kind of sun screen on anymore and have drummed this into my kids. It seems like I'm tanning more than I used to and if I am out in the sun for any length of time without sunscreen I burn. I swear the sun is stronger now than years ago since I never wore this much sun screen before. Of course, look it, I got at least one good sun burn every summer and ended up with skin cancer.

I am glad it was removed a few years ago and still seem to be doing ok now! I think it is stronger now than it was before too - but maybe we just did things differently when we were younger?

I don't use sunscreen, but instead I try to eat a lot of cruciferous vegetables and other nutrients that counteract daily hazards. I do not go out in the sun for long times after having stayed out of it though. That is just not a good idea whether one wears a sunscreen or not.

It's always a good idea to eat healthy! I always wear sunscreen since I've never been a sun person, lol.

It keeps getting higher, pretty soon it will look like suburbian house numbers (15699) I think we have 40 because we like the sun, but we also like to tan. We lived in Florida and it was like an accessory.

It is weird, seems like I can't go out anywhere in daylight without it anymore. I plaster our kids with it too.

My son's pediatrician said that once you go over 30 there isn't much difference. No matter how high, you need to reapply every 2 hours and after swimming. I use SPF 50 on my son, because it is Water Babies, a brand I trust, even though I know the higher number is not necessary. I buy a lot of things generic, but sunscreen is not one of them. For myself, I use SPF 15, because my skin is not as sensitive as my son's, and I rarely burn. I don't remember even using sunscreen when I was a kid, and since I started using it as a young adult, I have always used the same kind without a problem.

If we are going to be out in the sun for a long time then I will use suncreen the bottle is sitting right beside me it is called Coppertone Kids and it is 50 SPF I like using the spray it is so much easier than rubbing in lotion.

The spray is nice, especially for kids who can't seem to sit still long enough to wait for you to get it on them!
