Teaching as an art or a science

In my classrooms this topic comes up quite a bit. We seem to come to no answer on the debate, I am curious as to waht people think is teaching an art or a science?

I think its a bit of both, like cooking. There is a science to it but also there is some art to it. There are proven techniques to teach but you can put your own spin on things and make a teaching style of your own. I'm not a teacher by the way just my two cents.

I'm a science major and I love science, but teaching is an art. Life would be so much easier if there was some kind of formula that could be applied to every student, but students are drastically different. There are different behaviors and different methods of learning. The perfect teacher can adapt to meet those needs.
From my point of view, teaching is a science.
