I have the regular feezer that is attatched to the refridgerator, and an apartment sized deep freezer. Unfortunatly both are full to the brim right now, I can't fit another item in there.
Soooo... tomorrow I'm getting another deep freezer!! Yay! This one is going to be a bit bigger than my other. I plan on keeping the other as well, and having 2 deep freezers. I bet you I'll make good use out of both.
How much freezer space do you use?

I don't use a freezer at all. I don't buy frozen foods, and when I'm preserving my own I prefer to bottle or dehydrate to save energy. I discovered that I wasn't using the freezer enough to make it worthwhile, so I turned it off. I've still got it though, so I could power it up in an emergency.

No leftovers in this house! I cook enough for the meal plus maybe a bit extra for the next day's lunch and that's it. On the very rare occassions when there is something really left over that we won't eat (normally because I forgot to put it in the fridge overnight!) then the animals will eat it. The chickens, for instance, adore stale bread soaked in water and feeding it to them is far more fun than stuffing
I do use bones etc to make stock, but I use it straight away.
I don't have anywhere locally that is likely to have any good deals on meat. I suppose that if I did I could just switch it on! When we have our own meat to butcher than I'll buy a larger freezer anyway.
I do miss out on being able to make my own 'ready meals' by not having it available. By that I mean bulk cooking so that it's just a case of defrosting something, but I really don't miss it that much. If I don't feel like cooking, then we just eat pancakes (again!).

You're going to butcher your own meat? OMG I can't imagine doing that. I'm sure it is much cheaper, but I really couldn't bring myself to do it!

What about leftover food? Do you use that up quickly enough so that you don't have to freeze it?
What if you found a great deal on meat... wouldn't you want to buy more than you'd use right away, so you'd have some saved for a rainy day?
How about day old bread that starts to go stale? Couldn't you freeze that until you have enough to make stuffing?
Bones and leftover veggies for soups.
I can think of millions of reasons for a freezer... I guess that's why mine is so full, and most of it is not "frozen food" bought from a store, it's my own leftovers or extra's. When I make a pie, I'll make a few at a time and freeze some. When I make bread I make 2 loaves at a time and freeze one for a day when I don't feel like making it. Same with muffins. Right now I'm going overboard on freezing these things due to my surgery next week, I don't know when I'll be in the mood to cook or bake again.

What do you eat then? I can't imagine not having a refridgerator.

i eat usual stuff like you do guys but i really dont cook...i often buy viands and cook rice or i would grab food in a chain, or open packed food, sometimes when i feel like cooking a bit i will buy and fry them in the oven (yeah my oven has a frier on it)i eat only once so i really dont sweat on it...i am more into cookies, fruits or bread almost all the time..

I guess when you live alone and only have to worry about feeding yourself, there's really no need for too much stuff.

I would love to get a deep freeeze. As I could stock up on great deals and my husbands mom has a Sam's Club card and I could save so much more buying in bulk. Our freezer usually gets full but for now I have been just buying food every 3 days as to not waste it.I noticed I dont waste as much if I do that.Becuase sometimes I would forget about the meat being unthawed to fix or the meat expiring.I know its sounds crazy but at times I would buy meat and forget I had meat.LOL.SO now I check and make sure I dont.I hope to get one soon.

Yes I agree on that one.SOmetimes brand names can be just as good and cheaper.I would like to get one of those Vacuum sealers that you can put your meat in a bag and you can get out different portions and then put them in seperate bags and seal them up.Its supposed to help with the meat not getting freezer burn.

I have thought about those, and someday may get one, but I've yet to really have a problem. I bought a large box of freezer bags from Sam's Club and those work rather well. I make sure I squeeze all the air out of the bag before I freeze it, and sometimes will double bag for extra measure, or wrap in foil or plastic wrap before putting it in the bag.

Oh I've done that too. I do my entire week's shopping and will decide what I'm doing early in the week, and what I'm doing later in the week. The meals later in the week will go in the freezer so they don't go bad. Then my problem is I forget to defrost, and because I buy in bulk, I can't seperate just enough for 1 meal. I once ended up wasting 4 lbs of ground beef by trying to seperate just enough for that nights dinner. So what I do now is as soon as I get home from shopping, or sometimes the next day, I will take all the meat and break it down into single meal sizes and put that in freezer bags. If I forget to defrost that meat, most times I can still cook it frozen either by putting it in the crockpot, or cooking it longer than normal.
And I also shop at Sam's Club. I do half my shopping there and half at Super Walmart and this saves me loads of money. I am able to spend $200 a week or less for a family of 7. Just be careful what you purchase at Sam's Club, because sometimes you can get a no name brand at Walmart a bit cheaper.

We don't normally need that much space but we do have one chest type freezer and the one on the fridge.. They stay full but never overflowing.. It was just my husband and myself for awhile, but since my son and his wife moved back in with us, we may need a lot more room..

When we built our home and moved in, we bought a side-by-side refrigerator and we already had an upright freezer. I kept them both full. Then, one day, our upright freezer played out, and I could not talk my husband into getting another one.AND I miss it, terribly.
When our son built his new home and moved from the old one, he had an old-used table top freezer. We took it and put it in our basement and started putting extra food in it. Actually, it probably holds more ice than anything! It is handy, but I hate for my freezer to be in the basement. But this one looks so bad I would not put it up in my laundry room where my other one was. I hope one day we can get another upright. I would freeze lots more if I had one where I could see everything in it. That is a disadvantage of a table top.
