Do People Assume Really Bizarre Things About You

I was just relating this story elsewhere but wanted to share it here about some of the bizarre ideas people seem to assume about me...In this case maybe not such a bad assumption and is actually funny. First let me give you a bit of background. My mother and grandmother always claimed that my personality was more a cross between my father, but particularly my great-grandmother. My great--grandmother was the type that could radiate a rather "rich" aura about her even if she only had two cents to rub in her pocket...Well I guess I inherited that trait...LOL Last year, as many of my friends here know, I was going through, shall we say a "fun" time..NOT. I had just been notified that my SSI benefits were to be completely cut off, and all I had to my name was $5.71 to my name...thankfully in about a month's time I was able to get my benefits reinstated...record time for SS only because I had gotten the inspiration somehow to contact a representative of my Congressman who helped me out. Anyway, around that time, all the apartments in my building were getting rewiring work done...the electricians were in and out of our apartments working on the wiring. A neighbor of mine (a real nutcase..hehe) came into my apt to chit chat. We're talking about this, and that. Out of the blue she says, "Well, it looks like you're doing very well for yourself. Your mother must have left you at least $100,000 when she died." I nearly fell over in a heap...like WHAT? I didn't let on as I didn't think it was any of her business...The truth was when my mother died it was a mad, frantic scramble to find out if there was ANY money around..she didn't have life insurance, no checking or savings account, nada. The week she died I was living on the phone contacting everyone imaginable to find out if there was any money around...When my mother was diagnosed with cancer in 2005 I started asking her, "Uh, mom, is there any money around so when you make the grand transition I can make proper 'arrangements'?" She wouldn't answer me and just stare into space. When she died ad after much searching around, it did turn out there was about $5,000....most went to her funeral cost when she died in August 27, 2006, pay more bills and what I had leftover I grabbed the opportunity to get my own computer. In other words I got that money in October 2006 and by December 2006 it was all gone. So how my neighbor came up with the idea I had inherited $100,000 is beyond me..like I said maybe I radiate a "rich" aura. I didn't let on how much I had gotten, but instead said to her..."If I had inherited that much money, would I be sleeping on a 47 year old bed frame, with a 25 year old mattress, have a 15 year old stereo, heck would I still be living here?" Maybe I should have said, "Oh, no you got it wrong...I actually inherited $750,000, and tomorrow I pick up my customized Lamborghini, next week I pick up my yacht, and also my Lear Jet, and then I'm moving to my estate in England"...hehe So folks,...do people make really bizarre assumptions about you...is it a good assumption, bad one, outlandish as in my case, or what? How do you deal with it? Do you set people right or just let it slide?

I can relate on the SSI issue. We went through the same thing with my daughter but with no lawyer. I've had people believe strange things about me. One being that I'm an actually witch. I just let them think that. Keeps the neighbor brats away. LOL

Hehe..uh, well I call myself a Born Again Pagan...hehe...one neighbor who is more Catholic than the pope is now terrified of me since she knows I'm a witch...She's KNOWN me nearly all my life, but when it got out of my religious preferences all of a sudden I was deemed evil in her eyes. One time a mutual friend, Cherie, between her, the neighbor (Pat) and me was talking to me on the phone...Cherie mentioned that Pat was talking about me...saying...to the effect Oh, dear she (meaning me) must be casting spells on all of us all the time. In gest, Cherie replied "Well Pat, why don't you throw water at her (me) to see if she melts?"....LOL...Think I need to carry an umbrella around all the time? Uh...love your black kitty...are you SURE you're not a witch? Hehee

several times in my life actually, once when I just got divorced, the rumor in the neighbourhood was that I was sleeping with two brothers, in actually fact I was not sleeping with either of them, I wasn't sleeping with anyone, one of the brothers I hardly ever spoke to except if we crossed on the street to say hi, and the other one I was friends with his wife, so yes I was in his house, but sleeping with them, gimme a break.

Yes... well... after the few stories you told us about your mother... it does not really surprise me. Your mother probably told your neighbor that she had 100.000 dollars in the bank. As for me... people assume a lot of things about me... because I don't usually talk about my private life. I only correct them if I feel that it might cause me harm to let them believe what they assume. Otherwise... I don't really care. That was the very thing which did upset my old friend Plooker. He was stalking me to correct people about their false assumption about me. lol His idea was that considering my problems with agoraphobia... I should not be entitle to give my opinion or be taken seriously. lol

Now that is another insult Plooker... Because I do not lie... Not telling people about my private life or my private business does not constitute a lie. Not correcting people assumption about me does not constitute a lie. And what piss me off big time with you... is that you come here for the sole purpose of exposing my private life. And you don't seem to realise how sick that is. I really don't know what is wrong with you. You either think you are God or Daryl Hinch.

Oh everyone I meet thinks I am a rich b*tch but the truth be known I am a single parent in social housing who struggles. I suppose there is an air about me and my ex husband was well off and I have mixed and mingled with the lifestyle for years but I am not a monetry person and as long as my needs are met. This beighbour would have annoyed me though as that is very presumptious and also very nosey. Not her business eh! I will share what I want with people but the minute I feel I am being interogated I clam right up, nada as you say, I give them nada. I would actually do what you said and spin a yarn about mega amounts and see how quickly it goes round, it will be so funny and then when you don't move to your English mansion if questioned about it say oh I was only teasing it was 750,000 but in ruppees or something. I have lived in the area I live now for 16 years, when I first moved here I was a single parent and the area that I came from was better known at that time as "Gunchester" it was also known for its red light areas. SO taking all that into account here are some of the assumptions that were made about me: The father of my child was in prison (actually, he had not long been released so they were nearly right!) My house was a red light area because of where I come from, so it was assumed that I was just like them. I was running from a gang whom I had upset (not actually far from the truth but never told them that) People disliked me intensley because of the area I came from, they also feared me because they knew of the reputation of the area I came from. I had some pretty hurtful things said about me when I moved around here and a reputation without even doing anything. Everything was based on assumption.

It was horrible, it became so bad at one point that I would not go out of the house for a long time. Then when I did, I went to a pub and a gang of about 12 girls were threatening to get me when I left the pub, it was horrible. I had some pretty bad times.

Well, this happen just now. One of my sister's friend said that I behave or talk like an anti christ or some kins of an activist which I think is very opposite. Though I'm an opinionated person I never really bother to do anything much about it. And yes, as much as possible I want to go to church or have my own copy of bible. I may not be an avid christian but i'm definitely not an anti christ. Well, I understand when she said that I look weird or I behave weird since I always got that impression on me. I'm not really affected by this in fact it helps me more to look at myself of how I behave.

I found this great website all about "auras" and the meanings of color here--thought you'd be interested http://www.diamondhead.net/aura.htm Here's the meaning of Green and Purple Auras... [i] GREEN The color green represents the phlegmatic temperament. It has a harmonizing effect. Green does not make us quiet, but calms us in a neutral, positive sense. Green is the color of possession and of the will to possess. Luscher says: "Green is the color of possession and should increase the feelings of security and in particular of self-confidence." Green is also considered to be the color of concentration. It stands for exact examination, precise analysis, systematic logic and for recording and remembering. Among other things, the color green is applied for the naturopathic treatment of bronchitis, whooping cough, inflammations of the joints, and swellings. In addition, green has a positive influence on the treatments of cysts, eye diseases and diabetes, generally promoting the secretion processes. Green promotes relaxation of the organs and stimulates general detoxification of the body. VIOLET Violet is the combination of the choleric-impulsive and the melancholic-tender nature. Violet is the color of the emotions and is considered to be a meditative color. Violet can lead to profound liberation of the mind. Intuition and imagination are enhanced. Violet is the color regulator at the interface between the mind and the body. In color therapy in particular in color acupuncture, violet is applied for treating the lymphatic system and the spleen. I suppose people assume what they will. As a student people always assumed i didn't do any work and dossed around all day (maybe some students do but i certainly didn't get my 2:1 by not doing any work!) and people seem to assume we don't have as bad money problems as we do, that we are exaggerating or something! People always assume that becuase i'm intelligent and have a good education that i will be good at trivia, but i'm rubbish at general knowledge!

That reminds me of two little old biddy farts that used to live over me... This was when I was in college...I often had a really large credit load each term...yikes one time I did 21 credits in ONE term. Well, one day I'm off to go to college (it was a commuter deal). The one old fart was hanging out the window yelling at me "Go get a job you lazy beech." Like huh? First, how did she know when I left early in the morning that I wasn't going to work and what was it her business anyway? Sheesh

Oh, Pye, how I wish I didn't know! I'm a teacher, and my classes are 12th grade English. I don't think anybody's as judgmental as kids, and they will swear their assumptiions are true! First, because I'm a teacher, I'm not quite human. If they see me at a mall or at a movie or in a grocery store, they're shocked! Of course, I do have a life. They seriously believe teachers aren't real, so we don't do things normal people do. They also assume I know absolutely everything, and they think I'm just blowing them off if I can't answer a question about math courses I never studied or a language I can't speak. I'm quite good with fashion sense, so I put outfits together well. I also take very good care of my things, so some of the clothes and shoes are much older than those kids. They just think I'm incredibly rich, even though, when we discuss their futures, they don't want to teach because we don't make much money! My husband played professional baseball when we were very young, so they assume we know every player ever, and that he got millions of dollars for playing. Well, in the 1960s, only the team owners made really good money, and his career was cut short by Viet Nam. Being drafted by the Cardinals was great, but being drafted by the Army stunk! My hair is white, because I'm allergic to hair color. Kids aren't fooling around, nor do they mean any disrespect when they ask me about first-hand experience in the Civil War, or World War I! Schools are strange environments. Around the neighborhood, though, a lot of the neighbors assume the same stupid things! I think it's funny, and I point out their errors if there's any indication at all that they're receptive. Ususally, however, there's nothing that can be done. Have a hearty giggle!

I think kids have probably gotten a lot more judgmental over the years, don't you think? But yes kids seem to think that maybe teachers just don't plain have a life outside of the classroom and they aren't human some how. Speaking of fashion...OMG...most of my clothes are well, shall we say ancient? LOL. I tend to buy clothes that are timeless, not what's "in" so can look good and be acceptable no matter what...I kept my clothes well and in good condition, but since I do dress nicely when I go out, the same thing...people must think I'm loaded with moola to look so nice..sheesh
