I just heard that the hotels in Beijing still have plenty of rooms available for the Olympics. It seems to worry the officials there. What do you think is the reason for that? Too many hotels? They build 36 new ones just for that occasion. The recent earthquake? People boycotting the games? Or people have less money to travel because of the oil prices? It's probably the latter. Who has the money to go anywhere anymore!

Could be that the earthquake, oil prices, the recent bad weather and flooding are contributing factors, but I think China has been getting a lot of bad press on Human-rights issues and air pollution . My son is working in Guangzhou ( a Chinese city about 100 miles inland) and he tells me the cheap food peasants eat is not palatable and Western Food is expensive. We (in Canada) have quit buying fish because all fish sold in Canadian supermarkets is grown and packaged in China. The Chinese fish farmers use a Cancer causing Chemical in their fishponds that has been banned in Canada for decades. This chemical(Malachite green) is used to stop infections in overcrowded fish Ponds. Personally I wouldn't go to the Beijing Olympics if you Paid my way!

I don't quite know the actual situation but I believe lots of chinese have the similar ideas like me.We don't want to capital during Olympic Games. That's doesn't mean we don't support Olympic Games, the reason is that too many people in Beijing could make the living condition more crowd.Augest is the hotest month in Beijing and most of people have their work to do.Unless you have enough money and free time with great passion, otherwise, sitting in front of the TV is also a good way to celebrate Olympic Games. That's just a common chinese's mind,we are willing to left these rooms for foreigners.
