My wacky cat is licking my keyboard!

Just now, my big male cat, Big man came over and smelled of my keyboard. At first, I thought he was licking the keys to get some kind of grease or food off the keys. Cause my daughter uses the computer while eating snacks. But then when he looked at me, his mouth was open and he looked like he was snarling. That is what they do when they are taking samples of smells. I can't remember the name for it. Does your cat ever do that snarl face at you when they are smelling something? Does your cat ever smell of your keyboard or other things in your house?

it's a "grimace". our black cat raises his lip when he's doing the sniffing.we call it elvis face, cause it's just the one side that cat has to smell EVERYTHING. if he's never seen it,it must be smelled.

Elvis cat says: "Thankyou! Thank you very much, ma'am!" Thanks for letting me know that my crazy cat is not the only one. Sometimes I worry about him. He's scary human!

I used to do that all the time before the little girl came along. Now I've run out of tape! Big boo-hoo for me. So it's off to Walgreens I go to replenish my stock and then I'm uploading everything!

Hey I like how you have a cat named big man since my cats name is little man . Sadly , he is big though I have a cat Caesar who actually will come over and lick you . Late at night he likes to lick my fiances head . I dont wanna say this but I think he likes sweat. My cats sometimes make that face too and I have no idea what it means . I will be curious to see what people post .

That is so cool! Wanna hear something funnier? There is a movie with Dustin Hoffman from when he was a young man called "Little Big Man". And I swear I wasn't even thinking of that movie when I named my cat. It was just the only name he would respond to. He was so miffed that I had named him a girls name.

Oh my goodness That is funny and pretty cool . My cat little man he got his name not because he is little , but because I was being so picky with his name . I would just be like come here little and then the man just stuck . He did come to little man , so when I finally picked Romeo he never came to it . I am glad , because it is odd !! I think I heard of that movie.

I don't recall ever seeing the cat licking or sniffing the keyboard. My cat is pretty lazy though. He has been know to give me a dirty look a few times when I am trying to take something from him that he is interested in. He got really mad at me the other day when I stopped the baby from feeding him. She was offering him a whole slice of american cheese.

My little girl does that one too. My big cat loves human food. So he takes handouts of food that she does not want.

Cats are so much wacky fun! And, they pretty much take care of themselves, not like an indoor dog who will feel lonely when you leave for work or class. Very self sustaining creatures!

My cat doesn't lick the key board, but she has to smell everything. Sometimes when I've been working in the yard, and sit down to rest, she'll come smell the soles of my shoes, lick them tentatively and then do the "snarl" thing. I think they smell something that's either unfamiliar to them or they know exactly what it is and see it as a threat. The material the key board is made of may be a "mystery" smell Big Man is trying to place. It occurs to me that in the case of the cat licking the CD racks that these are stored in a warehouse before sale. Most warehouses no matter how clean they're kept are plagued with mice and/or rats. Their urine scent will penetrate cardboard and even plastic. That may be what's making the cat go crazy over the racks.

That's phenomenal! I had not considered that Big Man could be picking up trace scents from the previous life of my computer. I guess that could apply to everything. Interesting. Must ponder that one. Thanks for your response!

That is so funny! Just as I read your comment about your cat my cat stretched up to the arm of my chair, looked up at me, and let out a loud meow! It was like...hey..pay attention to me. One of my cats always jumps in my lap while I am typing and tries to pull my hands away from the keyboard. It is adorable! Thanks for sharing....at least I know that my cat is not alone in her weirdness!!

It's so funny that we would share weird cats and our loathing of Billy Mays!

i never have a cat as a pet ever... i only have a dog before... so i don't really know about cat... but when i did have a dog in the past, my dog also like to smell and lick at everything in my house... including licking me... :-) i think that is the way she expressed her love and showed that she likes me by licking me... :-) it is very cute though... take care and have a nice day...

My cats did when they were younger, but now that they are 10 and 12, they do not do things like that anymore.

My cat does that all the time. I can' remember what that's called, but my sister the cat lady probably would. My cat licks everything, including my when I'm asleep. haha He also takes a running start at me and knocks the laptop right off of my lap, when I'm using it at home.

That's neat! I wish my cat would do funny stuff like the laptop lunge. No, wait. I'd be kind of ticked with him. But he's my little (Big) man, so I wouldn't stay too mad for too long! Thanks for dropping by.

Our cat has a similar strange behavior. My eldest son bought CD racks for each of my two youngest children for Christmas a few years back. The CD racks are made of a hard plastic material. They swivel around such that the CD can be pulled out from any side and are triangular in shape. Our crazy cat will find those CD racks no matter where we move them and he will sit and lick them incessently! My daughter put hers up on her desk and he hops up to the desktop and licks the CD rack! She then moved it to a corner of her room where he found it and continues to lick it! If he tires of licking hers he goes to my other son's room and begins to lick his CD rack. Strange!!!

I prefer dogs over cats. The are a nuisance to my existence. Unfortunately there are many wild cats coming in to my house. They ran all over the place, they sh-t and pee wherever they like. Thats the thing i hate most about this feline creature. The smell of their sh-t is so stinky and vomit inducing.

I was going to say you must've eaten something while at the computer but you said your daughter does that so that's probably what it is he's smelling. However, if he's snarling, then some other cat may have done something not so nice which is marked it's territory, which is normal for them to do but still, on your keyboard? YUCK!! Might be a wise idea to clean it and clean it really good!!
