I am on paxil and am having a hard time sleeping and was wondering if it was because of the paxil. Does anyone else have this problem or is there something i need to get to the doctor to speak to him about?

I have actually heard that Paxil can trigger mania in patients who have bipolar disorder. Often times people have only had depression and when they are treated with Paxil it can bring out the other end of the bipolar spectrum. I am not saying that is what is happening with you, but if you are having trouble sleeping, I would definitely talk to your doctor about your symptoms. One of the first symptoms of mania or hypomania, is a racing mind that cannot rest.

Wow thank you for that information I think I am definitly going to get into the doctor about this. I wasnt aware of all the side effects of paxil and I am very young. I would prefer to be off any pills but i have such bad anxiety that i dont know how to deal with it.

Don't get too stressed about needing medication. Many of us do. There are many things on the market that would be suitable for your needs. The thing with medications of this nature, is that they sometimes take as many as six weeks to get into your system fully. You need to be patient, and consult your doctor on the way you are feeling while trying to adjust. Sometimes these side effects lessen with time. Ask your doctor's opinion, and don't ever decide to go off of medication suddenly. The doctor will help you ween yourself slowly if that is what is best. Good luck to you.

Thank you. I was wondering if you know if Paxil causes people to gain weight. I have notice that I have gained a lot of weight and am not sure as to why. I also am having a very hard time loosing this weight.
