A fruit grower has apparently been asked to destroy...yes DESTROY..his whole crop of Kiwi fruits..the problem is it seems that they dont quite come up to scratch in size!!!!!they are about a millimeter too small. Now im baffled about this ..I mean do you measure your kiwi fruit before you buy them???...What about the curvrd cucumbers and the knobbly tomatoes lol..would you buy them???..I would!!

Hey Ruby! You're back! First you send out a search party looking for me, then you disappear yourself
This destroying food thing is outrageous. Even if they didn't meet the requirements as class 1 fruits, surely they could be sold as Class 2? Or even given away to the hungry. It's ludicrous that they should be destroyed.

Moo ,Hello there ,ive been and im back and ive been again and im back ...and I hope that all is well in that sunny little corner of the world that is yours...I hadnt seen a post from you for a good while,I asked around wondering if caring for the chickens had all been too much for you,and you had gone into the realms of despair...I PM`d a few including dear Piky..and they hadnt seen you either!!But its good to see you back! The waste of the fruit is unforgiveable, those who have nothing in their bellies would have wept as they saw those fruit being destroyed...may they live with their conciences..

I will take them or at least as many as I can eat without them going bad.. That is so foolish and wasteful, people are starving, poor kids need fruit and they are being destroyed, that is really foolish.. I try to get the best, freshest produce, but it isn't worth the time and effort to differentate between what is a millimeter longer.. I have never seen a pretty cucumber, but I have purchased many ugly ones that have tasted great..

Cucumbers are naturally ugly arent they?we used to grow what you call ridge cucumbers and they were the ones about six inches long, they had lots of little warty bits on themlol,,but there wasnt anything wrong with them though. The people who assess the suitability of the fruit and vegetables that are sold nowadays would have a field day with the look of the ridge cucumbers!!!but they were sweet as could be..

That is ridiculous, all that work he has put in and yet now he has to destroy all his hard work. I cannot believe that! I do not actually buy kiwi, but I certainly would not measure one before I bought it!

I dont buy kiwi fruit either Rose, but only because they are a fruit tat doesnt appael to me greatly, they are more a fruit that wold be used for decorative purposes to my way of thinking..ie trifles or desserts etc..but there is no way that this should be allowed to happen, its sacrilege to think of all that good food going to waste.

Years ago before the whole size thing was invented,we just had to have what was there. The apples were small coxes and the pears were scabby little things, the lettuce had a slug or two init, the chances thenwere it was fairly organic too,and we just got on with it all, they ought to throw away those measures.

A good point .if the only fruit and vegetables were sub standard ones because of size and shape ,would we throw them away?I think not!!when we were kids we were just so grateful to get any fruit!an apple was worth its weight in gold, and an orange was rarely found in our house, the vegetables were good,as my Dad grew all of ours, and he grew soft fruit,so in season we had raspberries and strawberries..gooseberries too!

That is a terrible waste? Cant he just give them away if he is not allowed to sell them couldnt he ask people to give him something in return! Maybe A pie, or any item they no longer need! Just do a swap no loss then, I wouldnt think of measuring any fruit Im always to busy eating it .lol

Wot a load of cobblers eh,what difference does it make if the fruit is small or large or wobbly or straight, its almost like a discrimination against those who arent perfect.I wud willingly buy fruit n veg that wasnt perfect if it were priced down a bit here, but the scandal of it all is that we have b*** millions with nothing and they are chucking this all away.
