I am going to be a high school Freshman in the fall. I am currently thinking very deeply about what career I want to be a part of. I keep tossing back and forth in bed about lawyer and cop. What do u think is best?

Yeah I agree. Besides, there is that judge (Judge Mathis I believe) on TV, the celebrity judge or whatever that used to be a cop and then became a lawyer and then a judge! Just follow your heart and take law courses in highschool if they are offered and just see where your heart takes you!

BOTH are great profession but it will all come down to... WHAT DO YOU FEEL DOING FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE?! Please try to look 10 years from nw and see which profession would you like to see yourself doing. And pray most of all... because HE can guide you in the right direction THATS FOR SURE

I take it your interest lies in law enforcement. You should go for whatever is in you that you really want to do. You should weigh the pro's and con's of each. You could ask a police officer that loves his/her job and a lawyer who loves what they do for how they feel and come up with questions so that you can conduct an informational interview so you can make up your mind. Because once you get going with your decision, changing geers would take more time out of your life and you should have a clear idea of what YOU want to do. Do you want to defend the innocent, sit in an office, be out there on the streets and see what's going on, do you want to get the recognition of being a reputable person by taking actions or maybe stick with a certain field of law so that you can have a knowledge for which people pay you. Do you want to stand up for something in particular like civil rights, or change laws. It depends what you mean by better of the two. Do you mean who makes more money? You can look up all there is to know about each in the Handbook of Occupations on the internet or at the Library. Good luck. You have 4 years to seriously consider your options and you have your whole life ahead of you as you know. I know you'll do what's best for yourself. Take care.

You need to try to get experience in each field. I know a lot of police stations sponsor Explorer programs for high school students. You get to experience the career and gain valuable leadership skills. Try shadowing a lawyer or getting an after school job in a law office. You won't know what you really want until you actually experience the work environment. Most importantly, relax because you have plenty of time to make up your mind.

Why can you not do both. Start a career as a cop and advance to a lawyer. Then you can do both. I think lots a people start off as cop then lawyers then judges ect. I would think you would make more money as a lawyer.
