This is the Boom Island Lighthouse in Minneapolis Minnesota. It is located at Boom Island Park alongside the Mississippi River very near Downtown Minneapolis. This park has a couple different cruise lines. One is a tour of the triver from Minneapolis to St. Paul down the Mississippi River. The other(s) are cruise boats for parties etc called Party Boats Cruislines I think. The tour boats are replicas of the old Paddlewheel Boats of a past era. I have been on the tour boat only and they have a dinner cruise at night with dinner and beverage and live music as well. It is a decent price also. This island park also has many city sponsored events with picnics, fireworks, music, arts, dancing, etc. All sorts of activities all spring and summer long. Have you any lighthouses near you? Any photos would be great of local area lighthouses you have also. Thanks all.

We don't have any here and I have never heard of the one you just mentioned. It sounds like something interesting my sisters and I could find time to do. Thanks for sharing and I'll have to share the info with my sisters! I would love to take the cruise down the Mississippi.

I have always loved lighthouses...sort of a reminder of times past kind of thing. Years and years ago, when I was a itty bitty kid, my grandmother, mother and I went to Montauk Point out in Long Island we went to the lighthouse there..yikes don't know if it even exists anymore...so many have been torn down unfortunately.

OMG--was just looking...Yup, the Montauk Point lighthouse not only is still there but it's a museum...it was built in the late 1700s and is the oldest one in NY state

I'm in the middle of TEXAS! We don't have and don't need any light houses here.
My sister is decorating her kitchen with light houses tho and I made one as a beaded banner for last Christmas. I made it to match a light house in NJ on Long Beach Island.

I have seen solar powered mini lighthouses for decks and patios. I want one of those for my front deck.

thats a good question. I dont think we have any light houses
close to us at least not close to Newport Beach or Huntington Beach. i am sure there are lighthouses around San Diego and I think there has to be around San Francisco too because of the heavy fogs there. I am going to have to do some googling and get back to you on that.

Most lighthouses usually sat on a long pier sticking out into the lake/sea/ocean. Some were on small islands as well out in the middle of the body of water. Thanks.

I love lighthouses - there's something very mystical and special about them. We have a small one nearby where I live, which has fallen into dereliction and has been vandalised. There is a committee trying to get a preservation order on it, and they are hoping to have it restored. It won't ever be a working lighthouse again, but it would be nice if it were restored for people to enjoy, as it's in a lovely spot.

The job of being a Lighthouse Tender was a very lonely and strees filled job as well. being responsible for the safety of many ships and their crew must have been a pain in the butt. Plus having to make sure the light stayed lit at all times especially in fog filled days. Very special actually. Thanks.

well considering i do live on the shores of lake ontario and close to the shores of lake erie, you would think there would be a ton of lighthouses around here, but oddly they are fairly rare, but if i stumble across any over the summer, i will be sure to post a picture.

No lighthouse here that I can recall every seeing, cept the small hand-built ones that people use for decoration in their yards. Love your pic of the lighthouse.

I love it when you can get a ride or a dinner that is a reasonable price. We have a train that takes people up the to the high county and it has dinner and a day's event. It is expensive so we have not gone. I would love to go sometime when we have extra money.

That does sound like a really nice place and so many different events and things going on. We don't have any lighthouses real close. My husband is an electrician and he had to work on one a while back, someone had made the lighthouse into a home. Right now I am cameraless, my daughter took mine with her this morning for her and my grandson's vacation. She brought the wrong charger for her camera.

This is actually very small. Maybe 50 feet tall only. It is for decoration more than as a guiding light for the boats. But the light is on all the time for looks etc. It is a sight that a lot of toursists visit and take a photo or more.

Can't say that we do have any lighthouses near here. I've always liked lighthouses as they all are each unique. We have something similar to this as far as things to do along the river side. Free summer concerts, the Belle of Louisivlle that is also a paddlewheel boat. This is on the Ohio river on the Louisville, Ky side.

I've always thought lighthouses were very romantic-type places but have never seen one except in pictures. I had to write an article about five of them and one that really fascinated me was way out in the ocean, 1,000 miles from anywhere! I'd like to tour the east coast one day and see a few of them.
