Well here is a shot of my fresh picked Brocholli. I picked it Sunday afternoon. I will make hot dogs, french fries and steamed brocholli. I sure hope it tastes good. I have a few more that will be ready next week I think. Plus the ones I cut have smallr ones already growing just below the cut part of the plant so they are doing great for my first time planting them.

Make sure you wash it well, Grandpa Bob. I remember when I used to pick them they had lil green worms in among the heads. Soaking will work as well being it drowns the worms and they then float to the surface.

They aren't big enough for them to hide. Plus I never saw one on them all the time I would weed and water etc. I am a great worm free gardener. HAHAHAHA!! But they were washed under cold water as soon as I brought them in the house.

it's great that you can pick your own veggies and cook them. There's no space for me in my high rise apartment to grow anything. i guess a small herb garden in pots might be possible.
here's a suggestion for cooking brocolli. if you have oyster sauce or fish sauce in your supermarket, what you can do is fry some garlic and small onions in a pan with oil, and then fry the brocolli in them till it's crunchy but soft enough to eat, and season with oyster sauce or fish sauce. a chinese stir-fry. yums.

YUCK! YUCK! YUCK! Sorry but I do not do anything with seafood or that type of spices either. I just steam the brocholli or add some cheese and add it to a baked tater.

You sure have been busy posting discussions as well the last few days. I haven't had a chance to get to them, but this is the first one I've had a chance to respond to so far. When I first read the first sentence, I thought it said fresh pickled broccoli. And I thought hmmm. I bet fresh picked broccoli is good.

Can I come over for dinner too? I love brocholli!! I used to call them trees when I was a little girl. "Please pass me the trees, please?" lol I finally learned how to say brocholli but my family won't ever let me live that down. lol

That is how we got our son to first eat some. We told him it was trees and he loved the idea of eating a tree I guess. Now at 28 he doesn't like it still. HAHAHA!!

It sounds like your garden is doing good. Our garden is growing good too. We have been having plenty of rain and the garden loves it. I saw this link in another discussion, I don't know if you are friends with this person or not. The is to a story about a new way of gardening. I thought of you, here is the link. http://www.latimes.com/features/home/la-hm-nodig12-2008jun12%2C0%2C55177.story

Hello dear Grandpa Bob. It is so nice to have a plot of yours to grow any vegetables you would like to. I am very glad that you are now able to reap what you sow. Broccoli is a very healthy vegetable that I like. I am sure that you will have a very nice dinner tonight with the freshed broccoli steamed to eat together with hot dogs and French fries. Enjoy your nice dinner with Debbie--Grandma Bob. Happy posting.

Wow! You are really industrious.
I have always thought so.
Gardening is such a wonderful, frugal idea.
I love frugal ideas.
I should really start a veggie or fruit garden, so
that we can have more home grown items on our
dinner table.
Enjoy your broccoli!
Be well.

Hi Grandpa bob yum sounds like a deliciouos supper and fresh steamed broccoli, love it when its fresh like that, we do getpretty good broccoli here as Irvine rancch grows it and sells it to our local supermarket, also we do get strawberries the same way and they are so good. From what you said it seems you can get more than one head of broccoli from each plant so
thats really great. I have never grown any broccoli. we had potatoes and corn, and tomatoes, green beans, cucumbers, peas, but never any broccoli, I guess my dad did not like broccoli lol.

I love broccoli, i find that it doesn't need much cooking as it's delicious when eaten still a bit cris and crunchy.
If you want a very simple receipt for broccoli soup all you need is 5 ingredients: broccoli, onion, garlic clove, nutmeg and vegetable stock. The recipe is so simple, you saute the diced onions and chopped garic cloves in olive oil for about 5 mins, then added the chopped broccoli and enough stock/water to cover it and bring to the boil. Simmer for a good long while untill the broccoli is soft and the soup reduced, add some nutmeg then either eat chunky or puree in a food processor.

Hi GRANDPA BOB! Wow, I wish you could grow hotdogs too! haha.. I really love hearing about your garden filled with vegetables, fruits and flowers. I really think that it is very smart for us to grow our own vegies if we have enough space for it.
Take care and God bless!
