You stretch...set your alarm...rub your eyes...lay down...take a DEEEEEP breath...close you eyes ever so slowly. Your breathing slows down...all the cares of the day melt away into a caldron of dreams...SCREACH...SCREACH...SCREACH...WHISTLE!!!WHISTLE!!!BARK! BARK! SWOOP...SWOOOP...SWOOOOOP...CAW...CAWW...CAWWWWWW! Eyes wide open, scanning the dark abyss you call your room. Hands fumbling for your glasses only to knock them onto the floor. You reach only to realize you were closer to the edge than you anticipated...THUD!!! Crashing to the ground you find the remains of your glasses after you so gently landed on them in your plummet from the matress. You stand still and you listen. As if in an endless audio loop the sound of what has to be 100 different birds (and a dog?) right outside your window. Someone has set up sound system and is piping animal sounds directly into your house. At least that is your first thought. Once your heart stops racing you quickly come to the realization that this annoyingly beautiful sound is not a sound system, at least not one created by man. It is not a 10 animals outside your window. It is...The Mockingbird. The metephore used by Harper Lee in "To Kill a Mockingbird" seems so appropriate. You want to kill it but at the same time it sings the most beautiful song in all creation. This truely unique creature sings the song of most bird it comes in contact with. Some attempt to mimic sounds other than birds, but the birds are the most prevelant. So why write such a lengthy discoarse??? Because I can. Because something similar happened to me the first time I heard a Mockingbird outside our house a few weeks ago. Anyone else ever hear the call of the mockingbird? Anyone else ever want to kill it and then was wooed by its siren song...

The most beautiful sound that I ever heard that is also the most annoying (by design) is a baby crying. You thank God that the baby is there and ABLE to cry for help ... I guess that is why it is so annoying to get you off your hind end and do something about it. :)
