How long do we have to keep our discussions updated?

Here's a question that I've always wondered about.
Let's say that you have a discussion that you posted
over a month ago. Or, maybe ten discussions.
But people keep responding to those discussions.
Now you've already resolved the discussion and picked
a best response, but you are still getting responses.
Should you feel obligated to keep responding to the
people that come by that discussion, even though you
have moved on to newer discussions?
Just how long are you obligated to follow up on your
own discussions and respond back?
If you're still getting responses one year from now,
would you need to respond back?
Does anyone know the answer to this question?

I think if it is an advice discussion where the situation has been soled, you can pick a best response and be done with it.
If it's another discussio about a on-going topic, even if you've picked a best response, continue the discussion if you eel like it.
I don't beliee in obligation, and I certainly do not believe that a best response means the end of a discussion. It doesn't have to.

Sometimes it is nice to drag things
out and chat for awhile.
I love discussions like that.
But as you say, if it were a discussion
seeking advice or solution, then why keep it
going.

I am not really sure about that one, I sometimes respond to those that still comment on the old discussions, not always but most of the time.

Well, in an attempt to mess with you I am currently going through the discussions that you started and replying to the ones that I do not remember replying to.
No need to respond to my responses.
I just had someone respond to a discussion I started 3 months ago. Last week I had one that was 7 months old pop up. I try to still respond to them if I have something to say that I have not already said in my other responses.

So that was you?
Wow! I think I saw the phenomenon as it happened.
I was looking for the two discussions
that I started earlier this morning, (think 3 am) and they
were nowhere to be found. They were buried on page six of my discussions.
I'm cool with that!
Like I said, before, I'll to respond to friends, always.
So look for a response as soon as I find your comment.

Hi Beautyqueen, good question, I havem't been here a year yet but if someone did respond to a discussion I had started that long ago I would still respond. In fact a few weeks ago I responded to one that old and it resulted in the person actually visiting me and staying at my home and I now have a lovely new friend in real life as well as on here. I do not feel that there is any obligation to but I feel that is it polite as sometimes these discussions get revived due to another posting that our old one appears under. Ellie :D

It's so nice to meet new friends!
I'm happy that you found a new friend.
I think that I read about that in one of your
other discussions. And the game? That was sweet of her.

Yes it was!
I do remember reading all those posts.
I smiled when I read who it was too.
She is always such a sweet person
and has the most delightful discussions, too.
Very polite.
I am sure your son enjoyed the game.
And what a lovely surprise that was, too!
So nice of her.

I never feel obligated to respond to every comment in my discussions. I only respond to the ones that I have something to add to or a reason to respond. So no, if someone responded to a discussion I started a year ago, unless it was an interesting response, I would not comment on it.

It is depend on the OP. For me, as soon as I still have received good responses despite that I already have flagged the best response, then I can still provide comment on those new responses to give at least a simple credit to the response. But if you don't want to provide comments it is fine I guess. We could not force each other here to provide response, it is depend on us whether we respond or not. Have a good day.

I guess it's all personal choice,
just depending on how one wants to
do things.
Sometimes I have lots of time on MyLot
other times, not so much!
Thanks for your post.

i guess it just depends on the original poster.
i still answer them, what the hey,it's a cent or two
but i really don't think there's a time limit.i think most people ignore them after a couple of months though.

it's not so much on your postings, but if people keep posting new replies.so,i keep answering no matter how old it is.it goes back to the new list on discussions so it's bound to attract more people.

Hello dear beauty queen. I love my old discussion to be responded to as I have quite a few old discussions without many responses. That was the time when I first became a resident at mylot and did not have many friends. I would be very happy if my old ones are brought to the surface of the Pacific Ocean to breathe in some fresh air. lol

*giggles* I was just surfing through your older
discussions the other day and found many that
I had never seen.
Now that I know you don't mind it, I will
bring them up to see light of day.
And then others will enjoy them as much as I did!
Be well.
Your friend,
BeautyQueen
P.S. Thanks for that wonderful tip about
using eye drops to avoid eye strain.
I suffer that too and your tip was most
appreciated. I'm referring to the post you
did a day or two ago. Very insightful and
beneficial!

Smiling. I am so happy to read your response with great appreciation. Thank you so much for your being so nice and kind as to trying to bring my old discussions lying at the bottom of the ocean to enjoy sunshine on the surface. I am looking forward to them. P.S. You are so welcome and I am really very happy that the eye drops I mentioned in the topic is of some help to you. Happy posting, dear beauty queen.

It's really all up to you. I try and get back to my old discussions and answer all of the responses but sometimes I don't. There are times when I would just be repeating myself again and again if I were to answer everyone in an old discussion.

Yes, it is! I do appreciate all the responses.
But I wanted to bring up this issue
so that everyone could have their voice heard.
Thanks for your response. Very unique!
Much appreciated.

beauty queen I think that its up to eachof us to do
the best we can regarding answering responses to all
our discussions. there are so many users here and all
with different issues in their dailylives, some can
answer all and every comment while most of us just do
the best we can. we would like to be able to answer
each and every comment but life can be so full and busy we cannot always do that. so we do the best we can.

I am happy that you understand the situation
that I am talking about.
Many of us do lead otherwise busy
lives away from Mylot and have no bad
intentions when we don't update older discussions.
I guess it's all about personal preference.
I do find it fascinating to go back and look
at old discussions to see how the conversation
has played out.
I have found many new friends this way.
Thanks for taking the time to respond.
Be well!
Have a bright and beautiful day.

Hi beautyqueen. As for me, I tend to respond to those who still responds on my older discussions only if I have something to add. If it's a topic about advices, I thank them for taking time to read and give their opinions or what they have shared.

of your discussions today.
Thank you for your comments.

I think this is purely a matter of personal choice, This is the reason that I try not to respond to older discussions. You never know if that is still the way they are thinking or if the author is still active.
I would say that once you are done with a discussion you are done with it. I wouldn't feel obligated to keep coming back to it unless you see something you really want to respond to.
Cheers, Tianna

Why not, as long as someone responded to it. Say thanks. They might be busy thats why they are answering late, the way I do. Thats why I dont also give the best response because for me everybodys comment is the best.

I'll just give them an update or the link to the updated discussion so they can see that things have changed for the better or for the worse. Either way, if you respond to them within a 24 hour period, you'll get credited for it too.

I would lovde to have this problem you are talking about. As long as people are responding to the discussion you are earning more money. So yes, I would continue to comment to the responses as it is earning me more money by my commenting also. I would not want a discussion to die as then it isn't making you any more money. Every once in awhile I perpursly go to my old discussions and do some more commenting to the responses just to activate the discussion again and get more views on it and hopefully more responses so that it makes me more money.

I don't think there is any set protocol, we each do what we feel works for us.
I tend to answer as long as I have something worthwhile to say, but if it something that I've already had dozens of replies to and I've really nothing to add, I might not answer if it is beyond a few weeks old.
All depends on how busy things are and what else is going on.

That's a good point!
My schedule does dictate my time on MyLot.
And I have found that the answers do tend to mimic
one another after the fifth or sixth page of responses.
While I do appreciate all the responses, I think that
some of the people who hit the discussions a month later
are just repeating what the earlier ones said. They are not
adding anything new.

I have not had an opportunity to keep my discussions updated because I've not had more than a handful of responses to any of them.
But, if I would have any discussion that has many responses, I would respond to comments that I feel I could contribute to. If there are still comments after a month or so, sure, I would respond to it. It might be that after some time, general opinions may have taken a turn.

That's a very good point.
If the person adds something substantial
to the discussion, then most certainly I will respond.
And of course, if I know the person who is responding, then
I will always take time to chat with them, no matter
how long ago the discussion was started.
Of course, it might take me awhile to get back
to the discussion as I don't use email notifications
anymore. But I do go over my old discussions at least
once a month looking for new responses.

hey BQ..
Like right now, this discussion as it says is posted a month ago, but it's just now that I saw it..
In my case, I do respond if I get an email notification that somebody still posted on a topic that I discussed over a month or so ago, because they took time to respond and so i must make some time or effort too to comment, just so they wont get offended..Of course, maybe not all of us do this, but i would if Im informed.
Some people might have found that topic interesting or to which they can relate or would like to offer their help or insights, so it's not that i feel obligated but I would very much like to comment.
i just dont know if those who started the old discussion will be paid but maybe those who responded will.
