Did you even come close?

When I was younger, of course I was asked by many adults and children, what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wanted to be a variety of things from what people have told me. I wanted to be Batman, Superman, a Policeman, a Fireman, a pro baseball player, and my favorite, a Gorilla. I was a policeman once a long time ago. Never any of the others, though I did play baseball for four years while in College, just not as a pro. Now, I work in a Paper Plant. I guess I didn't come close to being what I wanted when I was a kid. What about you? What did you want to be when you grew up? I still am waiting to grow up actually.

Well considering i'm not that old yet, I really don't know what I want to be when I grow up. It's something to really think about though. I mean, I have dreams and I have things that I would like to do, but I don't see most of them happening. It's a win/lose situation if you really think about it. You could want to be something one day and the next day your something else, and your stuck wondering what happened. You can't really say what you want to be when your young because things change alot. But if your really going for it, then you should meet yourself half way there and realize, hey, this really is what I want to be. And there you are saying, Goal accomplished. So as I said. I don't know if I can answer this one.

Well, Toksic, maybe you are on to something without even knowing it. Never grow up! Sometimes I still wonder what I want to be when I grow up.

I don't remember ever having a real ambition, but I always liked reading and writing and I have had a career in publishing and books (selling them), and now I am a writer, so things do seem to have worked out as I would have liked. My other great interests as a child were nature and art. I still enjoy watching wildlife and take an interest in the natural world. I really wanted to go to art college when I left school, but I had to go out to work instead. Thirty years later I studied art history and got my degree as a mature student.

Thanks for the response, Paid2write. Writing, as I have aged, as well as reading, have become passions of mine as well. When I was younger I hated doing either one. Sounds like you made out just fine.

I am still growing up and have lot's to learn. But right now I want to be a performer on Broadway. I want to dance, sing and act. I also want to be a writer. I've always wanted to be a writer ever since the day that I learned English and learned how to speak it perfectly.

Yeah thanks and I'm actually working on a book right now too. I've finished the first five chapters. I'm working on the sixth chapter and I already have the whole book outlined. So good luck to both of us. ^_^

I never ever wanted to be anything but on my own. I am very independent and always just imagined being on my own and taking care of myself. I guess you could say I got what I wanted. It wasn't as easy as I had imagined it would be but every bit worth all the effort. I have done a number of jobs from auto claims adjusting to sales clerk, meat cutter, delivered meals , sewing, just typing , carpentry labor and finish.....all are work and all have enabled me to raise my kids and remain independent. no complaints or disappointments here.

Well when i was younger i know i wanted to be a veternairian, and a gymnast in the olympics.... i got veary good at gymnastics and i did compete aginst others i won a few medals, but never in the olympics lmao... And after i got alittle older and i relized that a vet doesnt just help animals get better, they also have to do dirty work to. put animals to sleep, give them surgery when the come in and have gogten hit by a car and other things like that. omg i would be scared for the rest of my life if i ever experienced any of that. so being a vet is out of the question. when i relized what i actually wanted to really do in life i was in highschool, i volunteerd to work with the kids of our school who had mrdd, who were intelequally disabled, and special needs. i enjoyed myself so much. and to this day that is my goal inlife, i want to be a teacher for the handicapped......... and ill also settle for being an art therapist IF for some reason i cannot fufill my goal to be the teacher.....

i didn't actually come close to what i want to do when i was still a child with what i am doing now... but it is OK... i am still very grateful to God that He still provides me with job so that i can survive... even though this is not what i am thinking that i will be doing in the past, but for the time being i just have to make do with it... i believe God will provide me with a better job in the future as long as i am patient enough and surrender myself to Him... take care and have a nice day...

When i was young... i wnted to be an astronomer so that i can study the heavenly bodies and discover far away planets... but i realized that the universe is far too big for me... so i change it to becoming a teacher... and true enough... teaching was my first career... and i loved it very much... but then... i had to quit because it is just too demanding... will take a lot of my time away from my family... so now... i work in the office which is very near a school... but i plan to return teaching when my baby is old enough...

Maybe you could teach astronomy if you still have the desire for that. I can remember having a telescope when I was younger and it fascinated me. My older brother, however, broke once and it was never replaced. Thanks for your response.

Thinking back, I wanted to be a veterinarian, I have always loved dogs, a photographer, a writer, and of course like so many little girls a wife and mother. I did not become a vet, but I do still love dogs. I did have my own by-line in a local newspaper where I lived, for 2 years, and also took the pictures for it. I also had 3 years of photography in high school. I did become a wife, three times, all ending in divorce, and I do have 2 wonderful daughters. However, I became a volunteer firefighter 10 years ago, trained in wildland firefighting and found my real love. I was hired for my dream job a little over a year ago and now work for the forestry service. And I never once even consider becoming a firefighter until I joined that volunteer department.

Didn't come close, I wanted to become a teacher, then at the age of 18 when I was hospitalized for one month, my dreams were to become a nurse. I wounded up in the accounting field, which I grew to hate. Now I am unemployed, and all I want to be is employed. Good discussion.

Getting hospitalized can change ones life in many ways. I am sure you will find employment and enjoy it much more than accounting. Thanks for the response.

Nope, really far off. I wanted to be a ballerina, a doctor, a nurse, a teacher...and now I'm a marketing professional, and I think I'm glad, rather than to be any of those I've wished for earlier.

When I was five, I wanted to become a substitute pet shop owner. When I turned twelve, that changed into becoming a writer. I'm still writing, and getting a B.A. in English with a slowly developing portfolio of fiction and non-fiction, so I seem to be on my way to that second goal...

When i was a kid if someone asked what is your ambition i would say " astronaut " I dont know why but the astronaut always fascinated me and i really wanted to become one. But then things were seen in a different light when i grew up and i could only go to the extent of taking physics as my major in college. Now i do tutoring. So maybe in future i might become an astronaut since i have the basic qualification. lol. Wish me luck
