I never ever write anything on it, not my name, address, or even any marks in pencil or pen, book marks..etc.. I don't like the edges of the book getting smudged,.. it must be afresh.. When i see some one else, has made some thing as above in my book.. then sure my blood pressure will be at its peak. It is for this reason, i never lend any book, to anyone. Take care friend.

I like to collect books as well. I buy science fiction novels. What I do when I buy a book is cover it with plastic and like you I put a name and date of purchase at the back of the cover. I also put the date when I started to read and finished reading the book.:)

I'm a book socialist and library user - so would hate to be so possesive and feel I was defacing the book to do this. I give my books freely and expect no necessary return (very few I reread anyway). I even used to do bookcrossing but it is too anal and contrived to continue with. The only exception - when I give a gift of a book then I may dedicate it if the recipient may like that. After all I love old books too and this can build a kind of history to the thing that may endure in future generations. I do not feel the same thing of the original ownership, seems childish and possessive and mean spirited to me.

The first thing I do once I get a new book home rom the book store is to put one of my personalized address labels inside the book, so anyone I lone the book to will know who the book belongs to, and will give it back to me after reading it.

I never write in a book....in case I want to donate it to a library or something like that. The only time I write in a book is my signature when I sell one of mine! I autograph it then but otherwise....nope! Won't do it!

Hello dear vanities. I used to write my name on the books that I bought, but not now. I always take good care of my books without spoiling them and I do not write anything on it unless it is my teaching reference book that I make some notes on.

I started reading books when I was a student as well. However, I feel like doing the same thing now, i.e. to write my name and date of purchase on the first page. This will indeed be a good reference to know when the book was purchased. Brillant idea of yours and thanks for sharing it. I'll do the same thing as from today.

Just like you, I write the date when I actually bought the books. There are even more things you can put in aside from the date. This book is a personal property of vanities. Date acquired: July 1, 2008

i write my name and the day i bought the book on the first page... i write my name on pages 69 and/or 143 of every book so that in case someone rips off the first page, my name is still somewhere in the book...

I do not write my name or the date.the first thing after I buy a new book is put it in my bag,I never read it untill I go to bed. maybe it is a bit weird, but I do feel good when I put my new book beside the pillow,I feel peaceful and joyful.I would sleep with my new books for several days till I finish them.:)
